If you think that chimp doesn’t look cool as hell you’re lying
Comment on Excellent anti smoking ad

Man there is so much smoke-copium in this thread, it annoys me to no end.
People shouldn’t be allowed to smoke in public and they should be forced to pay for the cost of their own healthcare if they develop any disease that has even a minimal chance of being related to smoking.

Yeah the only problem is it’s a before pic with no after pic.

Totally fair, but the only ‘copium’ I see in this thread is people pointing out how cool some of the animals look, which is funny because that’s the opposite of the intention. I assume most of the people making such comments are well aware how awful smoking is

Everyone above 14 knows how dangerous smoking is. Doesn’t make it less cool. Tbh it probably makes it more cool to most people.
This campaign is about as stupid as it gets.
It basically points out the only legit positive thing about smoking which is the fact that it looks cool.

Why would it be?
TherapyGary@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 days ago
I’m mostly joking, but myself and many others legitimately think that chimp looks cool af. I don’t smoke anymore, and I recognize that it’s awful and uncool, but I still think that the cigarette makes the chimp look awesome. I can’t explain why though. Social conditioning maybe?
A_Chilean_Cyborg@feddit.cl 2 days ago
Social conditioning must be the right answer, I think that for me, the animals actually do look silly.
Tgo_up@lemm.ee 1 day ago
Because smoking looks cool…
Very few people thinks smoking is uncool. It’s obviously a health risk but I think that’s part of the reason it’s seen as cool. It’s dangerous.
Just like riding a motorcycle if there wasn’t any increased danger associated with it it wouldn’t be cool.

so… their healthcare should follow the American system?
A_Chilean_Cyborg@feddit.cl 2 days ago
But without insurance.
desktop_user@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 days ago
they pay for insurance… what the insurance company doesn’t know can’t hurt it.

forced to pay for the cost of their own healthcare if they develop any disease that has even a minimal chance of being related to smoking.
Fun fact: smokers on average die much younger than non-smokers, and so end up being cheaper over a lifetime vs. the amount they pay into the system than non-smokers.
So the next time you see a smoker who’s on the same health plan as you, you can thank them, knowing their self-inflicted early demise will likely end up lowering costs on your plan.
Even more fun fact - same with the obese: a heart attack or stroke at 45 is way cheaper than paying for all the end-of-life healthcare healthier people are more likely to get in their 60s-70s when half of them aren’t even working anymore, lazy PoSs.
Really makes me reconsider how I think about those selfish in-shape non-smoker bastards who won’t just smoke or overeat so they die young and make my healthcare cheaper
Delphia@lemmy.world 2 days ago
In many countries that have socialised healthcare smokers on average contribute 2 to 3 times what their healthcare costs the government in taxes on cigarettes alone over their lifetime. So I mean… you’re welcome.
9point6@lemmy.world 2 days ago
Healthcare shouldn’t be conditional, it should be free at the point of use, no exceptions. You start drawing lines, you’re only gonna cause harm
