early CDs suffered from the data layer literally falling off, some blu rays are known to suffer from bit rot, vinyl gets damaged whenever it’s played.
- Comment on Basic courtesy 5 weeks ago:
someone has a job to collect them and unless the parking lot is even close to full there’s no risk for any vehicles getting damaged from a few dozen loose carts.
- Comment on Basic courtesy 5 weeks ago:
what signs? Only a few stores have any signs explicitly mentioning where carts should go, it’s just typically common sense that it shouldn’t go in the middle of the road.

weird, for me it works even with just setting a mobile browser to “desktop mode”.

- Comment on Why doesn't phones numbers have a "DNS" servet so we can just type in words like we do with the internet? 5 weeks ago:
It’s almost as if volte being a* proprietary technology hurts consumers and a lack of emergency test numbers (numbers that use the emergency system but are just for testing that it works) makes things harder.
*potentially multiple technologies
- Comment on Why doesn't phones numbers have a "DNS" servet so we can just type in words like we do with the internet? 5 weeks ago:
To be fair, phone books are far from common in the USA anymore, and DNS is a far more interacted with technology than old school caller id.
- Comment on What do you use to digitize your old vacation VHS? From SECAM tapes?!? 5 weeks ago:
I’m surprised that even VHS-decode has only experimental SECAM support It’s as if SECAM was a niche format.

sometimes it’s not about solving the immediate problem, but about making sure it doesn’t happen again.
(literally “fixed” my alarm clock this week after it’s plug broke off in the outlet by giving it a $10 right angle plug that won’t be under any significant strain.)

freedom of expression does also matter, how much more distracting is this compared to if it was made with retroreflectors? Could these lights be confused for hazards? Is this any different than having a glowing “taxi” sign on a taxi?
- Comment on The new Hulu Subscriber agreement just dropped - Don't like ads too bad. 1 month ago:
yes, you can, and I would expect an “ad-free” service to do so, at minimum replace it with a “commercial break” sign and preferably adding extra commentary.

we need more innovation in the intersection of killing and fucking, perhaps by designing more realistic fuck-dolls that can have explosives rigged to them to trap and kill soldiers.
- Comment on Amazon Artificially Discounting Items $0.01 Below the Free Shipping Limit 1 month ago:
USPS charges a not insignificant amount for shipping heavy items to Alaska (excluding media mail that frequently takes months and few retailers ever use). If physical stores sold anything at a reasreasonable price (aside from off season fishing /hunting /cold equipment) fewer people would use Amazon.
- Comment on I don't see the problem. It's A tree. It's not THE tree. 1 month ago:
I also believe it to be the former, however I love the idea of the latter as it would be a great example of how not to use image generation models.

if solar was incentivized to have batteries, power factor correction, and (if the power companies can shut off the connection at the house during service to prevent backfeding) use frequency correcting inverters.
- Comment on If you save, we will charge you more 2 months ago:
Exactly why personal solar energy will hit a tipping point as the rates rise drastically as more users use zero to negative energy. Those that cannot afford solar will suffer, but the Environmental impact will probably be reduced.
