I don't have internet at my house because the crap that's offered way out in the country isn't worth the money--I was devastated when Netflix decided to end the DVD program because that's how I see all new movies. I was hoping that there would be an opportunity to get the retired disks
Comment on Netflix is going to let DVD.com subscribers keep any unreturned discs

No one wants physical media these days.

starlink is pretty good.

I can do that with my plex server and acquired media. I having used a DVD in 15 years.

I use a PLEX server and acquire my media (mostly) from DVDs, Blu-Rays, and 4K discs, heh heh
YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 2 years ago
A lot of mine was from DVDs but after that you don’t need them.

And yet disney is releasing some shows on blue-ray.
HellAwaits@lemm.ee 2 years ago
This doesn’t prove anything. Disney does this because of all the Disney collectors. You won’t be seeing Netflix releasing Blurays of their shows.
PoopingCough@lemmy.world 2 years ago
Except vinyl records and for some weirdos cassette tapes

I prefer non digital music, it sounds better. Non digital TV shows and movies are not better most of the time.

Blu ray discs specifically hold so much data when you have a 4k blu ray and the devices to play it it is NOTICEABLY better than every streaming site besides Netflix, probably on par.

Hell yeah, I got a laser disc copy of Dead Alive.

I really want CEDs
can@sh.itjust.works 2 years ago
I don’t, you don’t, but many people still do.
kratoz29@lemm.ee 2 years ago
They are free though.
cubedsteaks@lemmy.today 2 years ago
uh I have plenty of dvd’s and I still buy them and VHS tapes.
kingmongoose7877@lemmy.film 2 years ago
You got any stats to back that up, amigo? 🤔
YoBuckStopsHere@lemmy.world 2 years ago
Steady decrease of 19% year after year.
We know those who are not online are exceptions but that isn’t a viable market to sustain sales.
ClarkDoom@lemmy.world 2 years ago
General sales are down but boutique labels are flourishing. Physical media isn’t dying anytime soon, especially when streaming still can’t reach the quality of streaming media.
cubedsteaks@lemmy.today 2 years ago
Not only that but I live in Portland and we actually have several stores that you can rent VHS tapes from still.
keyez@lemmy.world 2 years ago
Then there’s me buying that 19% gap when things get below $6-8
StunningGoggles@sh.itjust.works 2 years ago
Try selling your old DVDs and see what you cam get for them. Even Blu-rays have lost most of their value as well
ClarkDoom@lemmy.world 2 years ago
Yeah, your theatrical edition blockbuster isn’t gonna have any value but you’re limited run boutique remaster or out of print cult classic will sell for an arm and a leg.
cubedsteaks@lemmy.today 2 years ago
I noticed some DVDs are going up in price again because people are reverting back to them.

points to the article the thread is discussing
Well, Netflix is saying they don’t want 'em right there!
