Alternatively, they’re both insane.

theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 hours agoYou mean the abused women? Johhny Depp was certainly the villain in that story,

Is this one of those “believe someone because of their gender regardless of the evidence” arguments? That kind of thinking is dangerous and sexist.
RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 9 hours ago
Honestly they seemed like they were both toxic and abusive and deserved each other.
theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 hours ago
Or you know we can not pass around the myth of “mutual abuse” with no evidence just because Heard is kind of a shitty person in general and doesnt respond “correctly”.

Help me understand… did the judgement reflect that? Was Depp imprisoned or fined for being “the villian”?
Was Amber victorious after all those legal procedures and Depp found guilty of anything?
Did Amber have to pay anything or was she vindicated as a victim and justly rewarded?
proudblond@lemmy.world 10 hours ago
This assumes the legal system is infallible.
CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 10 hours ago
Infallible isn’t in the table. You’re saying theres something fallible by a COMPLETE LACK OF DISAGREEMENT.
No one agrees with you, that’s nothing to do with the “fallibility” of anything…

I’m a bit confused — are you talking to me, or about Amber Heard? Feeling pretty attacked, which, if that was your goal, congratulations I guess?
For what it’s worth, I honestly did not follow the case very closely and what I did see was tons of conflicting narratives depending on where I was reading or hearing about it. I have no idea who to believe. Probably they’re both shitty people.
None of this has anything to do with my comment about the justice system, which was in response to yours asking about the verdict, compensation, etc. as though those things mean truth. I don’t believe they do mean truth; I’ve had personal limited experience suggesting otherwise and there are plenty of cases that have ruined people’s lives that were later overturned.
I’m not trying to be combative, but I feel a bit defensive because of what feels to me like vitriol from a random online commenter. If I misunderstood, I apologize.

You live in a different universe to me if your universe handles abuse cases in court correctly.

It’s interesting there’s a sharp line between what women and men believe here. Sadly, not knowing the details makes the propaganda more likely to work. Heard and her lawyer were stupid, but that doesn’t change what likely actually happened:
The reason people don’t like Heard is:
That’s it.
Here’s a video talking about it. To anyone still on Depp’s side: Maybe don’t support abusers? Maybe don’t support their narratives if you think everyone’s a scumbag? Where are the Depp memes?
