  Thank you, yes! That’s why I came to Lemmy in the first place after all. I get the altruism of the fediverse but ultimately what I wanted out of the one social media platform I use is niche communities and memes. I was really upset to lose Reddit; it had become a major part of my screen time. And yes, it totally got shitty. So I’m happy to have a reasonable substitute in .world.

  For real though, my husband has eczema mostly concentrated on his hands and they get real torn up in the winter especially. If it gets really bad, we’ll get him a pack of latex gloves, he slathers on Vaseline and then I help him get the gloves on, and then he sleeps that way. It’s the only thing that manages to make a significant difference. It’s not comfy but sometimes his fingers bleed so we gotta do something.

  I think Hannah would be okay unless she turns into a bridezilla. Not because I’d be involved but because I’m guessing bridezillas are probably deeply unhappy people that take their misery out on others.

  My aunt’s kid is my cousin. My cousin’s kid and my kid are second cousins.

  It’s essentially finding the most recent common ancestor. My cousins and I share grandparents. Second cousins share great-grandparents, and so on.

  “Once removed” and such refers to generational differences. So, my first cousin’s kid is my first cousin once removed, and my kid’s second cousin.

  WOW. I live relatively near an active base and occasionally these beasts will fly overhead. I had no idea they were capable of literally flying through hurricanes; that is extra badass. I’m not really an aircraft enthusiast or anything but it still gives me a bit of a thrill to hear them thundering overhead.

  (I have not seen them but) I feel Pierce Brosnan was born at the wrong time. So much of the cinema in the 90s was so campy. Just comparing 90s Bond to modern Bond, there’s a big difference in tone. Then again, maybe it’s actually his preference; he did do Mamma Mia after all. I can just imagine him as a more serious actor and would love to see it. How does the Thomas Crowne Affair rank in that way?

  Also people love Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, or at least we used to. I’m sure some people are tired of the schtick but he does love the character. Hugh Jackman is also a highly respected Wolverine. So I think that’s part of it.

  Regarding stickiness, perhaps it’s because the internet is ubiquitous now. Fifteen years ago, those of us on Fark and Digg and Reddit came to the internet for a lot of things. Notably, we kept in touch with friends that way (MySpace and Facebook) and in particular, we got our news that way. My parents were incredulous forever and still kinda are that I “don’t watch the evening news.” Now everyone uses it for everything. The big difference is that the early adopters are naturally more open to change because they adopted something that was a change. The rest of the population was slowly pushed into it. Now they don’t want to leave the sites that they’re used to (e.g. Reddit and Facebook) because they aren’t that open to change in the first place.

  Music nerd here so bear with me.

  I liked Third Eye Blind when I first heard them, probably as a teen? (I’m an older millennial.) But then every song they released afterward sounded the same and I couldn’t stand them anymore. I took enough music theory (read: too much, I have degrees) so I was able to figure out why. They lean hard on singing on the third scale degree over a IV chord, which I suppose you could claim is a IV7, but their melody is always on the third. So yeah. I think they’re hacks without any ideas except that one. I get why people think they’re catchy though.
