Hopefully the media is changing. Off the top of my head, I thought of “Inside Out,” where the girl is an only child (I think?) and her family is depicted as pretty loving, just going through a tough move. I suspect a lot of kids’ media has also adjusted to two kids max; I’m specifically thinking of shows like Bluey and Daniel Tiger for instance.

I’m really sad as a Millennial that this aesthetic has been dubbed “Millennial gray.” I’ve watched some videos on it that make the case that it’s a backlash from the 70s aesthetic we grew up with combined with poor financial prospects in early adulthood, meaning we couldn’t buy a lot of or very nice furniture. Now that I’m firmly middle-aged, I can afford better stuff and my husband and I are slowly turning over crap particle-board furniture for nice solid wood pieces (often secondhand) in the craftsman style.

Yuuup, people don’t believe me when I say that my pasty white butt was in the minority growing up. I’m pretty sure my middle school in SJ was about 50% Vietnamese only, not even accounting for other POCs.

I tend to agree with you, but then I remember the convo I had with my mother-in-law about why trans people had to wear clothing that affirmed their gender when it made her uncomfortable…
WTF, I can’t even. I just avoid talking to her as much as possible at this point.

I’m a bit confused — are you talking to me, or about Amber Heard? Feeling pretty attacked, which, if that was your goal, congratulations I guess?
For what it’s worth, I honestly did not follow the case very closely and what I did see was tons of conflicting narratives depending on where I was reading or hearing about it. I have no idea who to believe. Probably they’re both shitty people.
None of this has anything to do with my comment about the justice system, which was in response to yours asking about the verdict, compensation, etc. as though those things mean truth. I don’t believe they do mean truth; I’ve had personal limited experience suggesting otherwise and there are plenty of cases that have ruined people’s lives that were later overturned.
I’m not trying to be combative, but I feel a bit defensive because of what feels to me like vitriol from a random online commenter. If I misunderstood, I apologize.

Maybe the reason they’re sitting mostly unused is because much of the public feels similarly to OP and doesn’t want to jump through a bunch of hoops just to use a tennis court.
- Comment on Girl Scouts are ramping up their tactics 2 weeks ago:
Gross. One thing I heard from my parents as well as generally on the internet is that the Girl Scouts have waaaay less national support from the organization than Scouting America. As in, they have way fewer resources and can’t afford to provide a lot of support for individual troops. So I can’t say I’m surprised. Part of me thinks it’s a gendered issue; part of me thinks it’s because BSA/SA have Mormon support; maybe there are also some other factors. But it has always rubbed me the wrong way that Girl Scouts get shafted.
- Comment on Girl Scouts are ramping up their tactics 2 weeks ago:
My brother sold nuts through Boy Scouts, and they now call themselves Scouting America so that girls can be involved, so maybe that’s where the nuts came from? I don’t think I’ve heard of any Girl Scout troop not selling cookies; it’s a big deal and the main fundraising for activities. Unfortunately.

I found myself wondering if that was Michael Buble but I rather doubt he has a wrist tattoo? (Also seems too classy to eat corn that way, but who am I to judge?)

Cats often shake their prey to break their necks so it’s very possible to make a kill without piercing the skin (or, in this case, exoskeleton?).
Source: my cat sometimes shakes her head when eating her kibble like a pampered, indoor cat who has never caught live prey would know to do.

I did this once after getting these toothbrushes for my kids. Of course we didn’t figure it out before opening the package. Thankfully I found someone in the school community who could use them. Sorry it happened to you, too!
- Comment on Sonic turns 35 today—what does this franchise mean to you? 5 weeks ago:
My family had an Atari, then a Sega Genesis (and maybe even one of the earlier Sega consoles? But I’m not sure, I was really little) but we never had a Nintendo before the 64, which my little brother saved up for and bought with his own money. He and I played a lot of Sonic together, 2-player, usually with him playing Tails but not always. We fought a lot as kids but when we played Sonic together, we didn’t fight. I think it was one of our only true bonding activities and I’m so thankful for it because we are friends as adults.

As a kid I remember commercials for a local injury lawyer during daytime tv in the summer. His commercials were very memorable, just in the way he passionately talked. Now I see billboards for him and his son, and recently he was a sponsor at a college basketball event I attended. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug because I’m actually rather fond of him, in a stupid way.
In my area, he’s the only lawyer I see on billboards, or at least that I notice. When I visited Vegas, there were so many. (In my area, billboards are all nonsensical and if you look up what it’s supposed to be for, it’s always AI. Can you guess where I live? Sigh.)
- Comment on How accurate is this? 5 months ago:
Yeah this is what I was thinking too. I worked for a mom and pop hobbyist store, and Starbucks. Obviously Starbucks was worse. But would it be worse than, say, a mall clothing store or Target or Walmart? Not sure.
- Comment on Can anyone explain why? 5 months ago:
Man I went to a party last week, had one glass of red wine and no other alcohol, and woke up the next morning with a killer headache. I’m 42 and not much of a drinker but this kind of reaction made me think it was specifically the red wine. I ain’t doing that again for a long while, if ever.

As an actor or the role?
I recently watched some of a random episode on YouTube and it happened to be about how he and Samantha first met, literally the night before he was gonna marry someone else, and he throws it away because he’s infatuated with her after she barely speaks to him. Is this what passed for romance in the 60s? Fuck.

- Comment on Feeding my family alone is expensive. I can't afford to feed all of y'all. 7 months ago:
My aunt always hosted but we always brought something to share, usually something that was precooked or didn’t need cooking, like salad or dessert or even just cheese and crackers for an appetizer or something. She still made a ton of food but she didn’t have to do it all on her own, and we all drove a bit to get there; we were the furthest I think at about 2.5 hours away. It was my favorite holiday; just food and family. But I am aware that my family is pretty functional as families go. I am very lucky.
