we’ve treated numerous people in various nations the same way
not every Russian is pro pootin but plenty in the US cheer at deaths over the war with Ukraine and America’s current behavior affects many more directly than that conflict
best you get used to being treated like the heel, it’s only going to get worse
You’ve been saying that for years. I’ve yet to see any pushback, now the rallies are a good start but they have to go on day after day after day after day after day until the situation improves, not one weekend every six months.
We’ll see in November when the Republicans will win the midterms because people vote R and the other part is too lazy to get off of their asses to vote.
Is that the reckoning you’re talking about?
Then accept the fuck yous you’re getting, get used to the animosity, and vote to fix your government. Your country’s horseshit spills over everywhere and we’re tired of having to step through the shit left behind by your administration.
We actually are. If what you’re expecting is bloody revolution that’s not going to happen. And I understand from the outside looking in it seems like we’re doing nothing but that isn’t the case.
As an American once again, I condemn the actions of our current sitting president. Ice is a modern-day Gestapo.
You can support enforcing immigration law while still opposing how ICE conducts some of its operations. In fact, that’s the position many people take.
The strongest opposition to ICE comes from the political left, particularly progressive Democrats and immigration advocacy groups. Their criticism is generally directed at tactics like large-scale raids, detention practices, due process concerns, and the scope of the agency’s authority. Some want major reforms; a smaller number want the agency abolished altogether.
Meanwhile, Republicans and many conservatives overwhelmingly support ICE, arguing that it’s carrying out laws passed by Congress and is an essential part of immigration enforcement.
So pretending there’s some universal consensus either for or against ICE is just inaccurate. The agency is one of the most politically polarized institutions in the country. Whether someone supports it, wants it reformed, or wants it abolished depends largely on their political views—not on some objective, settled fact.
I won’t quote your comment because you deleted it, and it wasn’t that bad.
But I’ll respond to it anyway.
The news you get from whatever state media you’re watching, or whatever you happen to see here on Lemmy or Reddit, is not representative of the country as a whole.
There is significant opposition to what is happening in my country right now. We do not like ICE as a whole. We do not consider it legitimate law enforcement. To many of us, it has become a modern-day Gestapo.
They are widely disliked across many communities in America. Many people view those employed by ICE as the bottom-of-the-barrel refuse of our society.
If you’d like to understand what is actually happening in our country, I suggest doing something more than toilet-bowl research.
