Genuinely, like, I know where the money went obviously, but what about the shear amount of time they’ve had to make anything, like what the hell was actually happening in that studio honestly
Comment on Fallout 5 officially in pre-production, being built on Elder Scrolls VI engine
Grimy@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
They took so long to start that all the hype is gone. I’ve got anti-hype, I fully expect to be disappointed. It’s going to suck.

Endless arguments about a new engine vs even more duct tape on the creation engine. Starfield was a tech demo of their latest updates.
StarryPhoenix97@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Pretty sure the only reason they’re doing it is as a token move for some court order or something. I’m really not interested either. No hype for me thanks. I’d rather have an actual game then the nebulous promise of a game that’s going to be disappointing.
Starfield was their last shot for me. They fumbled that.

It’s so XBOX’s new management doesn’t fire Bethesda’s management.

I thought fallout 4 was pretty mid, which killed any hype I might’ve had for 5. Did not like having a backstory forced on my character.
DarkMetatron@feddit.org 3 weeks ago
So you didn’t liked Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas either? Both games had characters with predefined backstories too.
dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 3 weeks ago
Fallout 3 was pretty good. New Vegas was solid.
And let’s not be disingenuous, the backstories for both were not taken to the level of 4 and we all know it.
NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Gamer expectations are crazy high. Fall out 4 was objectively a decent game, and you could do nearly anything you wanted in the game and it had branching narratives. Some people will just never be happy.
bandanawearingbanana@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
No it was not objectively a good game. There was loads you could dislike about it.
I didn’t like the system they had for in game conversation where the options told you nothing about the maincharacter’s answer. You don’t really know what question the char would ask when an option was labeled [question].
NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Like I said, some people will never be happy.

@NocturnalMorning @dreamkeeper the last good games were Tetris and Adventure
dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 3 weeks ago
I said it was mid not that it was bad, and I didn’t assert as it was an objective fact. It’s just my opinion.
I had some fun with the usual fallout gameplay but the dialogue and story were the typical Bethesda oversanitized stuff, which I find very boring now. The settlement mechanic was annoying. The backstory killed a lot of the immersion for me especially because it was predictable and kind of cheesy.
There’s no need to get defensive, not everyone is going to like games that you like.
NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
I’m not defensive. I just think gamers have unrealistic expectations these days. Everything needs to be brand new with novel mechanics, hyper realistic, the most interesting story ever or people aren’t happy. It’s boring.
Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
Just wait until the official reveal and you’ll be back onboard that hype train in seconds.
bandanawearingbanana@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
The official teaser of TES VI had me hyped. However, the official reveal of TES VI teaser will be old enough to buy TES V in 4 years. By the time it comes out he could be buying TES VI most likely.
People born the year Skyrim was released are almost old enough to drink.
BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 3 weeks ago
that just means itll surpass expectations of sucking, instead of disappointing hype for not being perfect
Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 3 weeks ago
But if it surpasses expectations does that mean it gets a raise for doing a good job??!
rants_unnecessarily@piefed.social 3 weeks ago
No. It just gets additional responsibilities with no pay raise.
