    If he used other opinions I’d be inclined to agree. Taxonomy is an attempt to divide and categorize so something that can not be so cleanly divided.

    The example of Neanderthals is a good one. Neanderthals and modern humans both split from homo erectus. However they were able to interbreed and they did. Frankly fully separating Neanderthals made no sense. They and homo sapiens should be considered subspecies of one another.

    Classification doesn’t actually increase your understanding. It just feels like understanding to white cultural values. Learn a serious field of biology like biochem, neuroscience, endocrinology, paleontology… taxonomy doesn’t create knowledge, it only creates categories.

      Sure, you could also simply stand around looking at things saying “hmmmm…”. After all every observation is unique, so you could accept all the differences and just observe it as it is, say “hmmmm” and then move on to the next unique and special observation. Trying to identify commonality and give it names just throws away most of the information in each unique and special experience

        I will defend this point(not any of the other ones tho)

        Science is inherently bound to our culture in what we value, how we believe truth is produced, what we do and do not accept as valid criteria for classification.

        taxonomic classification is useful, but relative to the culture that produced it, which is in large part dominated by “white” culture. A different cultural group might split along different lines.

        There’s a lot more to astronomy than just knowing what kind of thing a thing is. We don’t just look at dots in the sky and say “ooh, that’s a neutron star, that’s a brown dwarf, and that’s a planet”.
