And that’s why so many people die from guns in america. More often than not, your family/friend instead of an actual menace.

the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks agoThat’s how I store the one I keep in my nightstand overnight for self defense. That’s also how I carry it. Not gonna do me much good if it’s not ready to fire.

Most gun deaths in America are from gang violence and suicide
mikezane@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
Suicide is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that statement.
blarghly@lemmy.world 2 weeks ago
So is gang violence

Just make sure to cover up your neck when you spout off stupid shit like this.
the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Idk what you mean. The statistics back me up. Accidents are less than 1%.

This is has been true for a long time and is true currently, but the door to door federal nazi raids have only just started

What scenqrio are you so worried about that not needing the time to cock your pistol is going to be the key difference between being dead and being a hero?
the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 week ago
If I have to pull the thing it’s because someone is about to kill me. Just about everyone who carries keeps their gun chambered. That’s how experts recommend carrying it. Also, it’s weird that you think it’s heroic to survive an attack.
Laser@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
Unlocking and cocking take less than three seconds and add a lot of safety, I see no reason to ever put a gun out of my hand in such a dangerous state
mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
At least when carrying it, having it loaded and cocked is normal. The holster keeps the trigger covered, and any not-garbage firearm (read: not Sig P320) is drop safe in case of accidents. And that extra half second to rack the slide can be the difference between getting killed by an attacker or successfully defending yourself in an emergency.
And if they live alone and/or have a safe built into their nightstand I can kinda see their point, though I personally alway leave mine chamber empty

I’m not willing to give the psycho I bought it to protect myself from 3 seconds to cave my skull in with a bat
Laser@feddit.org 2 weeks ago
If you’re so concerned with such a scenario, I’d rather suggest you get something to detect intruders earlier so that 3 seconds don’t matter.
Also as others have pointed out, you’re replacing one risk with another way more likely one. But you do you.
the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
I’m concerned with such a scenario because the guy lives 2 doors down from me. He’s threatened me before and I have video of him staring at my bedroom window in the middle of the night, pointing at it, and swinging a bat.
A well built and maintained gun isn’t going to fire unless you pull the trigger. I live alone, my holster covers the trigger and I practice trigger discipline. When I’m handling the gun. I’ll be fine.
SirHax@feddit.nu 2 weeks ago
So the scenario is that this guy makes it into your house all the way to your bedroom undetected, but for some reason wakes you up before attacking? Seems more likely you’re going to wake up getting your head caved in, or just shot if the other random psycho also has a gun.
the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
What do you mean “all the way to my bedroom”? He’s on video pointing at my bedroom window and swinging a bat. I’m going to hear the glass break and so is my dog. I also have to potentially cross paths with him every time I go to my car, or the laundry room, or the mailbox. You sure do have some strong opinions on this situation you know nothing about.
JokeDeity@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Incredible to hear you call others psycho.
the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 2 weeks ago
Yeah, totally insane that I’m not willing to get murdered. I have a lot of nerve.
