Cassette tapes, mid to late 90s, then CDs in the 00s.
I got introduced to punk (Dead Kennedys, Rancid, Black Flag), hip hop (too many artists to mention), D&B and Jungle.

So back in the naughties, in highschool, my friend would share music with me. She’d have her dad burn a CD for her, and give it to me. She introduced me to Nickel Creek (bluegrass band, 10/10, highly recommend), and Elliott Smith. I shared Paul Simon with her. In the era when PCs always had a disk drive, and burners were available too. I can’t believe my current PC doesn’t have a disk drive lol

Back in my rave days it was the chillest crowd. Until some promoters started doing D&B - Hip Hop crossovers and the “thugs” arrived.

I never shared music via cassette, but I did have a radio/cd player/cassette player. It’s speakers were translucent blue plastic, and I’d use tapes to record songs off the radio. Timing it just right to get most of the start of the song, and less of the DJ as possible 😂

Cassette tapes. I still have a mix sent to me by a pen friend I now realise was wildly inappropriate. It included x-ray spex, Meanies, Spiderbait, GG Allin, and Cosmic Psychos.
Can’t currently play it as the stereo bit the dust.

I used to burn CDs, and was introduced to an array of Music With Stuff For Trumpets
I was (am) a trumpet player, so my various music teachers, band mates etc would always direct me towards anything that had a really meaty or interesting brass part

I have recently realised I like bands that use trumpets and brass instruments, like Too Many Zooz and Seeed (off the top of my head). It’s a talent to play trumpet!

I love them! I was watching them play in the NY subway on YT, and then watching them blow up was so cool!

CDs, minidiscs then vinyl in yr 12. Only a few people had a turntable though.
Shares went from pop -> metal -> techno -> psytrance -> and finally D&B.

I think it’s more a hobby and money pit rather than sound quality lol.
It is good fun though. Also there’s something about that initial crackle when you first put the needle down.

Tapes recorded off the radio. Pretty much everything from mid 90’s: NIN, Rage against the machine, Tool etc

I remember sitting on the big chest freezer in my bedroom waiting for Kylie Minogue to start on the radio so I could try and hit record at the very right second.
