Females

- arin@lemmy.world 4 months ago- Not age specific could be girls or women - umbrella@lemmy.ml 4 months ago[deleted]- arin@lemmy.world 4 months ago- And yes this could include any young women and girls but instead of saying both nouns he says one noun that includes both discriptors which is female instead of girl or young women - CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 4 months ago- So anon is asking why young girls didn’t accept his friend request?

- CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 4 months ago- Unless they are talking about 10 year olds, “women” is acceptable. - lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 4 months ago- So is “females” in regular English usage.

- fushuan@lemm.ee 4 months ago- In his defence, the first use of females was correct, “those who are young single and female” as an adjective. I’d say that the second one is wrong, but they did use women above too so I’d attribute it to having written female just above and typical 4chan brainrot. I’d keep an eye on this one but not crucify yet
- lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 4 months ago- Is treating females like a dirty, toxic word advancing a good cause? - At least they don’t judge. - funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 4 months ago- because people who use females will say men and females - presumably because referring to them as women humanizes them - lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 4 months ago- because people who use females will say men and females - Do you ignore all the instances they don’t? OP’s writer wrote women & used females to refer to female people (girls or women). - The post I linked to shows another use of noun female. - Singles communities, personals, classifieds, marketplaces offer abundant instances. - The word appears often in book titles & passages, especially feminist literature. - Seems your claim requires ignoring much regular English usage: it’s false. - presumably - That’s presuming an awful lot contrary to regular usage. - Regardless of motive, the act is the same: indiscriminately picking problems over females. If everyone did that, females would be generally accepted as a dirty, toxic word. Again: what good does that advance? - It’s thoughtless, self-destructive language policing.

- renamon_silver@lemmy.wtf 4 months ago- Female is not a noun. - samus12345@lemm.ee 4 months ago- Yes, it is. It’s just offensive to refer to a person as such when it’s not in a scientific or formal context. - lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 4 months ago- A non-scientific, informal context was given. Show us the offense there. - This is straight-up misguided language policing. Again, what good is served by treating female like a toxic, dirty word?
