Yeah, I see things like this a lot and think “shit, do I have ADHD?”

I mean, the current guess is 10% of the population. Mostly speaking a lot of it is relatable because it is a common experience, they become signs of something more when it impacts your life and wellbeing on a regular basis.
Do you feel like you’re often anxious about missing appointments because if you don’t stress about it you will absolutely forget?

I suspect the percentage of people with ADHD is much higher on Lemmy than the general population.

What makes you think easily distracted people would be hanging out here, on the distraction machine? /s

I can’t my brain will make me forget to stop me from stressing.

Right, just because you have symptoms doesn’t mean it’s a disorder for you. Many people learn to adjust to manage their lives once they are older.
I probably would have benefited from meds as a kid or when trying to go to college. Now, I wouldn’t change how things turned out at all.

Not exactly anxious or stressed, but I can’t make myself do anything - I can’t read a book or play a game or anything - because in the back of my mind I do have the thought that I’ll get too invested in it and suddenly realise it’s 5 minutes before a thing that I should have left half an hour ago for

There are many reasons why people experience this. It’s most definitely not only tied to ADHD. I don’t have ADHD and I have the issue in the OP as well. It’s not because I’ll get distracted and miss it, it’s because I have anxiety that I will. I can’t fully relax until all tasks for the day have been completed.

Polled a few of my friends and 100% relate to this meme, so I sort of doubt it.
Holyginz@lemmy.world 2 months ago
Not everyone who does it is ADHD, but a LOT of us that have ADHD do this.
Vibi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 months ago
It’s so hard to explain this to people too 😭 my entire existence just freezes until whatever is scheduled is finished. And then those times when people cancel last minute and the entire day was like this…
Holyginz@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I hate those days so much
mdd@lemm.ee 2 months ago
Sometimes I am the one that cancels. Time is still lost for me.

Or, you have a type…

It may be, but it can also come from having (for me) childhood experiences with parents who would absolutely lose their cool if appointments and other such scheduled activities were missed. I have this feeling and behavior pattern for things like work, hangouts with friends, and even casual events like a festival or faire, all in addition to the typical items like doctor’s appointments.
daniskarma@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 months ago
It’s a common thing that happens to most people for a variety of reasons.
someacnt@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
Wait, so is this quite a common thing?
adam_y@lemmy.world 2 months ago
I’m neuro divergent, I guess, but not ADHD. If anything I’m the opposite. I can focus of things incredibly well. I can prioritise and actuator tasks rather well.
However, you give me a dentist appointment at 2pm and I’m up at 7.30 with my coat on by 8, sat at my kitchen table until mid-day when I walk to the dentists and awkwardly stand outside for nearly an hour because that’s what I’m doing.
