No, not everyone knows. Sometimes people are hooked on something they did not know they were taking. One of my daughter’s friends in high school was given a joint laced with fentanyl, and it killed him. I had a friend who got addicted to meth in a similar fashion.

When my best friend, that I had met online but we also got together in real life, killed himself, his mother called me to let me know. I in turn got in touch with as many of our old EverQuest and World of Warcraft friends as I could to let them know.

My mother kept her last name. There was never an issue at school etc. I run into more issue now, everyone thinks my uncle (mom’s brother) is my dad because of the last names.

My wife took my last name because she had her father’s last name. He abandoned her shortly after birth and never attempted to get in touch with her. He quit jobs to avoid paying support. She did it to remove that last vestige of him from her life. Had she had her mother’s last name we would have hyphenated our names together.

My town does this at the city square. It started with all of the businesses around the square getting together to give out candy. Then the next year more people showed up for it. Then last year the city took over, did no advertising and almost no one showed up for it. Heck we went to another area to give out candy because we did not know. This year the city did it again, with zero advertising. There was a decent turn out for kids, but very few people giving out candy.
Our town is small and old, there are huge gaps between houses, much more so than when we lived in the city.

AirBnBs are one reason. My wife’s home town is trying to pass a law regarding short term rentals because close to half of the houses in town are airbnbs. A developer started to build a new housing development specifically to be bnbs.
Another reason is corporations are buying property as investments.
