- Comment on Minimum wage is UK’s ‘most successful economic policy in a generation’ 1 month ago:
Worth remembering that it wasn’t always a free-for-all before minimum wage was introduced. I think there was a mechanism to set minimum wages by industry, which got dismantled by thatcher (not sure on specifics but pretty sure there was some mechanism to set minimum wages).

They keep emailing me to say mine has reached its end of life and needs to be replaced - and yet funnily enough it still works while all these smart meters don’t

The headline frames this as if levelling up is useless, rather than it was a slogan that the Tories stole and then did absolutely nothing to fulfill

Britain’s prime minister? Asian. London’s mayor? Asian. Scotland’s first minister? Asian. His main opponent? Asian. As for the probable next chairman of the BBC, he isn’t Cornish.
Extremely weird of the author to use Cornish here, I am sure that identity has always been underrepresented in British high society

Starting to think it’s deliberate now.
I remember seeing a clip of Jackie Chan in a documentary talking about why the fight scenes in original kung fu movies were so much more visceral than American made ones, one of the techniques he describes is filming a punch from a wide-angle, then using a close up for the impact, but importantly having the same half-second of action in both shots so you would connect the two. Anyway i think of that every time I see this phenomenon - Comment on [deleted] 4 months ago:

We need systemic change (which can only be effected by the government) not individual action (although we as individuals can still pressure the government to do this)
