- Comment on Is it wrong to not have a disabled child solely to avoid forcing the child to suffer their whole life? 13 hours ago:
I think the other way around is wrong and immoral. Forcing a child to suffer their whole life is pure evil in my book. If you have the opportunity to prevent this, it is your duty to do so.

You were claiming that some libraries had limited support for CPUs from 2012, which is simple said absolute and utter nonsense.
You are also trying to pin Vulcan problems on CPUs. Which is nonsense as well, since Vulkan has absolutely nothing to do with CPUs since it is a graphics API using the GPU. The only thing that may be is that you were using the integrated GPU built in your CPU, which was not compatible with Vulkan instead of using your dedicated GPU.
In that case, it could explain why changing the CPU fixed the problem, but it was actually never a problem of the CPU itself but a configuration error on your part.
And as said, Wine will run on absolutely anything that came after a Pentium III, so it is very much impossible that your CPU that was from 2012 could not run Wine. But it would be of course very helpful if you would actually tell us what CPU you had.
And yes, i tested it. My old CPU was a Phenom 2 from 2010 and Wine ran just fine with it and still does . And i very clearly gave you the reason in my first post. Which is Wine requiring SSE2.
Man, i even can play some older games with Wine on my Dell XPS M1330 Laptop which came out in 2007. That thing runs an ancient Dual-Core. This needs some tinkering though.

Then it was an software problem. It can’t be the CPU. unless you were using something very old. maybe the problem got solved when you reinstalled the system after you got your new CPU.
- Comment on Anon's PC works 6 days ago:
That is only really a problem for CPUs one would consider today as ancient like a Pentium 3 from 1999 because it doesn’t have e.g. SSE2 support. Everything after that should work without any problems.
With older or slower CPUs performance may suffer, of course, but that is not a compatibility question.
- Comment on The voice actor of the GMan just posted this promising cryptic HL3 rumor 1 week ago:
To be honest, I hope they never do it. Because at this point it is absolutely impossible that it can live up to the hype. It will be a disappointment no matter what.
They can do other games in that universe though. They will work. I actually believe they will work better without HL3 existing.

I wish there were some big story / quest updates. Exploring the galaxy was a fun for the 150 hours I put into it, but after the end of the storylines and relatively few sidequests it got boring pretty quickly. This whole “Explore a new galaxy!” thing didn’t make sense to me either. What was I supposed to do that for? It looks practically the same everywhere. And there is nothing that would be actually new or surprising.
I mean, I could still do things like finish upgrading the freighter and the fleet, but for what? There is nothing to do with it.
Nevertheless, the purchase was definitely worth it. Games these days can rarely entertain me long enough to get that much time out of them.
- Comment on Will Firefox die for good if Google is forced to sell off Chrome? 1 month ago:
Well kinda. The Mozilla “Project” goes back to 1998. The Mozilla “Foundation” to 2003. As said, Phoenix was released in 2002 and then renamed to Firefox in 2004.
But in that 4 years they worked on the Netscape code to make Phoenix, they were as well funded by AOL, or not?
- Comment on Will Firefox die for good if Google is forced to sell off Chrome? 1 month ago:
Is there are even a “before”? The very first release of Firefox was in 2004. Google started paying Mozilla in 2004. The only time there was no funding from Google was 2014-2017. In that time Yahoo took over that part.
There was however the 2 year period from 2002 - 2004 when Firefox was still “Phoenix” which was mostly funded by AOL.
To my knowledge, there is not a single moment in the life of Firefox when it has had to get by without external funding and 95% of that time, it was google.

Right? In germany there is a lot named after her. e.g. The Institute for Nuclear Research in Berlin is the “Hahn-Meitner-Institut” (after her and Otto Hahn). There are countless Schools and streets named after her all over the country.
- Comment on Is linux actually gaming ready or is it just not for me? 3 months ago:
“Synchronous 26” and “Synchronous 320” sounds super weird. Are you combining RAM with different clock frequencies / timings? that can and often will cause problems like instabilities and crashes. i would take out the one you added and try the games again.
- Comment on Anon has a German girlfriend 5 months ago:
I can guarantee you that is very wrong. In fact we do it all the time. All the time, really. We even make whole comedy series and films about Hitler. And it is a very popular topic for jokes and e.g. stand-up.
Humor is a good way to process the past.
However what the greentext descibes is just low-effort and simply lazy and unfunny. Put a little effort into your Nazi jokes ffs.

It was posted yesterday with a different video that goes more into details what this is all about, the old records and how these were achieved and what the “true killscreen” is, etc. I didn’t think it would actually be that interesting, but I watched the whole thing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuJ5UuknsHU

My bad. I was sure i read somewhere they are hosted in germany. guess i was wrong. Still, hosting or linking to illegal stuff inside the EU is probably still a very bad idea. apart from it violating the ToS of the hoster (Hetzner).

Lemmy.world is hosted on a german Server and afaik run by german people. Hosting or even just linking to anything piracy related in germany would be suicide.
