- Comment on what the heck is a pensioner in the UK and why are they the butt of so many jokes ? 3 weeks ago:
However, they usually own the house they live in, so don’t quite get sympathy from younger folks who are struggling just as much and can’t even get on the property ladder.
(Yes there’s exceptions to both sides and would you believe it, the truth is somewhat more nuanced).
- Comment on ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Cast Pitch Musical Episode And Another ‘Strange New Worlds’ Crossover 2 months ago:
SNW has been an excellent show that I’ve greatly enjoyed, but each season has had one episode that stands out as being incredibly sub par.
In season one, it was that weird fantasy one that felt like an attempt at doing a holodeck episode without the holodeck.
In season two, it was the musical episode.

This is definitely not something specific to women at all. Men also love to neglect plants.
- Comment on What a feeling that was 2 months ago:
Games have got a lot more expensive to make these days. It’s never laziness, it’s money. Everything is money. And it costs money to hold up a game release, but you had to back in the day because you had no choice. Now you do have a choice, because you can keep working on a game long after you send it for mastering and certification.
Sure, you can argue that publishers should spend more money on testing and stop being “lazy” but that extra cost is getting passed on to you. It’s already obscene how expensive some games are to produce.

I love this right up until the random rule gets applied, then it’s just frustrating.

It sounds more like they’ve consolidated build pipeline and this obfuscation is part of it.

- Comment on Modders are gonna have a field day 4 months ago:
Several years ago I got an email about my rockstar account - someone had guessed the password and logged in, they were trying to change the email address. Luckily I’d managed to stop it in time and recovered the account.
Several years later, I decided to give GTA Online a go, I logged in and found I had billions in cash and loads of property and cars. I guess that they must have been nodding while using my account.
But I didn’t get banned so free stuff I guess?
- Comment on What a terrible relationship 6 months ago:
I don’t think anything she does is behind his back, I think he’s fully aware of it. I’m not saying he agrees with it or anything, just that their relationship is pretty fucked but their reasons for staying together is between them.

You can bet your sweet ass CoD will be part of it. Possibly not MW3 but the next game will be a big day 1 game pass launch, guaranteed.

That’s literally the only reason I’m supportive of this. Super mega corporate mergers are usually bad for consumers, but those fuckwits are so much worse.
- Comment on Shitsoft Teams doesn't work on firefox 7 months ago:
I’ve seen the exact same behaviour in the actual teams client on Windows. I think it’s likely just a bug.
- Comment on Is there something like F-droid, but for windows software? 7 months ago:
This is a good response and worthy of being the top answer, however I feel the need to point out that it isn’t actually what OP is asking for.
F-Droid specifically only hosts open source software, in fact it builds that software itself, it is t just another store or package repository.
Chocolatey does not build the applications it deploys and in fact contains plenty of closed source, proprietary and paid for software. It’s a fantastic tool and I use it a lot myself, but I wanted to be explicit that it’s not analogous to F-Droid at all.
- Comment on Tories heading for landslide election defeat, says Britain’s top pollster 7 months ago:
Anyone that was seriously paying attention in 2019 knew this would happen. There’s no version of Brexit that benefits the UK and the best the Tories could have done was blame the failures of it on someone else - but that massive GE win cemented that all this failure fell on them.
Prior to 2019, it was easy to blame labour and the rest of parliament for constantly blocking any Brexit bill they tried to push through, but not with a majority that big.
Nobody could have predicted the pandemic, but anyone who’s paid attention to the Tories for more than 5mins could have easily predicted that they’d use it as an excuse to bung their mates and siphon off even more public money. It was a grand ol’ time, unlimited public funds for their mates if they just half heartedly promised to find some PPE but also don’t worry about it because fuck the poor people, let the bodies pile high.
The Tories absolutely deserve annihilation at the next GE and they only have themselves to blame.
- Comment on This should be illegal 7 months ago:
No no, not at all - I agree with you, if you sell something to someone you shouldn’t be able to just take it back arbitrarily.
However, OP is talking about forcing companies to open source something they created - and while I love open source and am a big supporter of it, I don’t think that’s necessarily right either.
- Comment on This should be illegal 7 months ago:
I appreciate the sentiment around preservation, but there’s an argument to be made that if you make something, you should get to decide if you want to destroy it. Banksy did something like this recently by destroying one of his pieces of art when it went up for auction.

I’ll never understand why people put Steve Jobs on a pedestal. He might have been a very astute businessman , but by all accounts he was a horrible human being and a colossal prick.

My two partners and I took a bet on which of the OG cast would die next: Walter, George or Bill. I have Walter and now I feel kind of guilty 😅

The banking app I use takes advantage of on device biometrics and in terms of payments, the secure element in my phone. I trust it more than I trust a browser.
- Comment on Lostprophets' Ian Watkins stabbed in jail 9 months ago:
As much as this guy is a piece of shit that deserves to rot away forever, it’s still a failing of that prison to allow this to happen.
Would hate for him to die before he’s sisters a lifetime of prison. Don’t want him taking the easy way out.

- Comment on The Hi and Lo directions on my range’s knobs 9 months ago:
I’m really trying to understand what’s going on here in a way that makes sense, even if it’s a twisted kind of sense.
My best guess is that some of these burners have multiple rings and that by turning the knob left (Anti-clockwise), you’re going from smaller number of rings to larger number of rings - however, the rings start at their highest heat level. So looking at the bottom right dial as an example, the first “Notch” on the left is the smallest burner on the highest setting, then as you turn left more, it’ll dial down that burner until you get to the second ring on the burner - starting at full power for that second burner and continuing to lower power until you get to the 3rd ring, then it’s same again for the 4th ring.
Is that right? am I even close? I don’t understand why you’d go from smallest burner to highest burner anti-clockwise, but go from lowest burner-power to highest clockwise. That still doesn’t make sense to me.
- Comment on The Hi and Lo directions on my range’s knobs 9 months ago:
Mine has similar settings but they’re named in ways which actually tells you why you’d want them that way: “Ready to Iron”, “Ready to Hang” and “Extra Dry”, things like that.
