Don’t worry about not having any insights, I still valve-ued the pun.
- Comment on Anon takes the horsepill 1 week ago:
I also had a colleague in the UK casually talking in the break room if she should buy a house or a horse because they were comparatively expensive.

It’s not a joke.

TL;DW the stuttering is also present on console and doesn’t appear to be shader compilation.

You know what, shout out to Concord here. The official definition of a concord:
agreement or harmony between people or groups.
Everyone did in fact agree not to play the game.
- Comment on Steven Spielberg is ‘a big PC Gamer’ — loves shooters, and insists on keyboard and mouse 1 month ago:
Yup I’m with you here. I love KBM and it’s my preferred way to play for most games, but when it comes to driving I’d much prefer a controller with analogue triggers and a stick (unless it’s a sim racer, in which case a wheel of course) for that extra precision.
Unfortunately I can’t think of a good design to give that level of control to just one hand. Analogue keys are a thing but they sound awful, nowhere near enough precision due to the short travel of them.

I went to the cinema on Saturday and didn’t get a trailer for this. This post is the first I’ve heard of it too.

Yup, with a LD relationship like that, you have to fill in a lot of blanks about someone that you can’t determine - how are they in the morning? Do they pick up after themselves? Do they have any gross habits? There’s tonnes of little things that are entirely irrelevant in a remote setting but can really make a difference in person.
And naturally when you fill in those blanks, you tend to only fill them in with positives or you just don’t think about all those little things.

- Comment on Please stop making Alien movies 2 months ago:
I’m with you on the covers analogy, but I feel the best covers take the source material and do something different with it to set it apart.
I haven’t seen aliens Romulus yet myself, but it sounds like the ‘cover’ here doesn’t really stand out or do anything different to the original.

One of the “protect our children” protests in the UK yesterday involved burning down a brand new library because…reasons, I guess?
If you ever had any doubts about the right wing protests affecting the UK, remember they burned down a local community library for no fucking reason.
- Comment on A "test" to judge Star Trek shows 4 months ago:
TNG’s the inner light is one of its best episodes and it spectacularly fails this test.
- Comment on Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? 5 months ago:
Wait, What’s this about corned beef? I am Irish (as in actually from Ireland) and I have no idea what that has to do with St Patrick’s day?

It’s also worth pointing out that OLED’s solve many of the drawbacks of LCD’s, particularly around latency and response times.
We just don’t talk about burn in.
- Comment on Everyday, as an American 5 months ago:
In the UK we’re mostly using metric with the odd exception (we still love a pint of beer), one of which is that speeds are measured in MPH. It’s not really a big deal, there aren’t many customers between miles and kilometres and anything less than a km is still usually measured in metres.
- Comment on What happens when councils take control of buses? 5 months ago:
I’m pretty sure Warrington’s bus service is owned by the council and it’s dire. Expensive, infrequent and the buses are old.
- Comment on Parkville Station is officially complete! 6 months ago:
It looks like the spaceport from Total Recall (the Arnie one).
- Comment on what the heck is a pensioner in the UK and why are they the butt of so many jokes ? 6 months ago:
However, they usually own the house they live in, so don’t quite get sympathy from younger folks who are struggling just as much and can’t even get on the property ladder.
(Yes there’s exceptions to both sides and would you believe it, the truth is somewhat more nuanced).
- Comment on ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Cast Pitch Musical Episode And Another ‘Strange New Worlds’ Crossover 8 months ago:
SNW has been an excellent show that I’ve greatly enjoyed, but each season has had one episode that stands out as being incredibly sub par.
In season one, it was that weird fantasy one that felt like an attempt at doing a holodeck episode without the holodeck.
In season two, it was the musical episode.

- Comment on What a feeling that was 8 months ago:
Games have got a lot more expensive to make these days. It’s never laziness, it’s money. Everything is money. And it costs money to hold up a game release, but you had to back in the day because you had no choice. Now you do have a choice, because you can keep working on a game long after you send it for mastering and certification.
Sure, you can argue that publishers should spend more money on testing and stop being “lazy” but that extra cost is getting passed on to you. It’s already obscene how expensive some games are to produce.

Several years ago I got an email about my rockstar account - someone had guessed the password and logged in, they were trying to change the email address. Luckily I’d managed to stop it in time and recovered the account.
Several years later, I decided to give GTA Online a go, I logged in and found I had billions in cash and loads of property and cars. I guess that they must have been nodding while using my account.
But I didn’t get banned so free stuff I guess?
