- Comment on Karim Diané Gets Support From George Takei For Playing Star Trek’s First Gay Klingon 1 week ago:
Discovery was utter dog shit for sure.
Strange new worlds is decent though, a few misses but worth watching.
Lower decks is fantastic, a real love letter to fans.
Academy I expected to be just as shit as discovery but was pleasantly surprised. It’s definitely the weakest of the above with quite a variety in quality, but has its moments. I don’t hate it (so far).
- Comment on Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x07 “Ko’Zeine” 1 week ago:
Bit of a snooze fest if I’m honest. I was hoping we’d get more screen time with Genesys at some point but this was a bit flat and boring. It also seems to counter her character, an otherwise brilliant cadet that’s acing it but does really obviously dumb shit? Didn’t quite buy it.
The whole episode was quite predictable, this might possibly be my least favourite episode so far.
- Comment on This MF is quadrupling down and dropping Alien files before dropping the full, unredacted Epstein Files. GODDAMN. 1 week ago:
Of course he’s quadrupling down and he’ll keep on doubling down again and again because that’s the only way he stays out of prison and it’s the only way MAGA doesn’t collapse, so everyone around him will continue to back him.
The only way this will end is if he dies or a bunch of folks finally use the second amendment right they’ve been so precious about that they let hundreds of school kids die each year for.
What a fucking disgrace.

This has always been Linux’s barrier to entry, that smug attitude of “you’ve just got to learn it”. The majority of people don’t want to learn new things, the vast majority definitely don’t want to learn how to use a terminal.
There are some good low barrier distributions out there, but not many that “just work” for a user who uses their PC for multiple tasks.
Like SteamOS is wonderful if you’re just a gamer, valve has cracked that and made the UI nice and simple, but if you leave steam and launch the desktop it gets very complex very quickly. Hopefully valve continues to improve that experience.

“I love Lemmy” mfers when they’re not self housing their own instance so they can test charges before submitting a PR to the repo.

Have you seen the lengths people go to in order to not have to change their world view even a smidge? To not have to correct themselves about anything at all? I’ll give you a hint, literally every right wing party in the world doing well is because weak people can’t change a damn thing about themselves.
- Comment on I love science 1 month ago:
We’re gatekeeping science now?
This is just the equivalent of “oh you like <band>, name all their albums”. It’s dumb and you don’t need to be an expert to appreciate something.

My dude, have you tried not being a cunt for no reason lately?
- Comment on PS5 ROM Keys Leaked: Sony’s Unpatchable Security Nightmare (2026) | The CyberSec Guru 1 month ago:
Yeah I checked the twitter profiles of the two people mentioned, one doesnt talk about it at all and the other says it’s not what people think and it won’t enable CFW.
AI nonsense.
- Comment on PS5 ROM Keys Leaked: Sony’s Unpatchable Security Nightmare (2026) | The CyberSec Guru 1 month ago:
It’s really not. Literally the same thing happened with the PS3, arguably that was much worse and it didn’t cook Sony at all.
- Comment on We're going backwards 2 months ago:
The early days were actually great. People renting out spare rooms for cheap was a win/win, but of course “entrepreneurs” had to turn that into a side business and AirBnB had to maximise profits so it all went to shit.

To this day I still feel superior for knowing how to use the T9 when everyone else was mashing buttons like plebs.

Everyone needs to watch BoJack. Everyone needs that trauma in their life.

What’s your point?
- Comment on Can you think of any now? 5 months ago:
Yeah I didn’t get taught any of the stuff mentioned for me either.
One thing I did notice that wasn’t mentioned was the tongue map, that I was taught about in the 90’s - you know the one that said that your tongue has different areas for detecting different kinds of tastes - sweet at the front tip, sour at the back, that kind of thing. All bullshit.

Up to GCSE advanced maths, if that means anything to you.

If it’s any consolation, I suck at trigonometry!
- Comment on yin yang 5 months ago:
What’s wrong with probability? I found it once of the easier areas to learn, it’s just basic maths with different names.

Nothing at all, but that last line, “When is my turn to have fun?” Is a bit transactional, like there’s an expectation and that’s the problematic part.

Someone once told me that the Chinese word for penguin translated to “business goose” and I cannot tell you how crestfallen I was when I looked it up and found out it wasn’t true.
- Comment on Excel having a stab at dates 7 months ago:
I mean… They’re all kind of arbitrary in their own way, but one could argue that the excel time being invalid is actually useful because it serves as a null value - you know it’s incorrect, whereas on the other systems it could be the default date or it could be the actual date.

- Comment on DOOM: The Dark Ages Has Reportedly Sold Less Than 1 Million Copies 9 months ago:
It doesn’t really matter if people stick around to play a single game, they’ll almost certainly explore other games and stick around for the service. That’s the idea I think they’re going for.
I’d be curious to see how many CoD players stuck around.

Game pass is a big success for them as far as anyone can tell.
- Comment on My password is not accepted because it is too long 9 months ago:
You have described all of the guidelines that NIST, Microsoft, GCHQ and a few other institutions now recommend for password security.
And yet I still have to have this argument with so-called security engineers and my favourite, compliance officers.
- Comment on The System Shock 2 remaster comes out June 26th 11 months ago:
Bioshock was a cut down version of the “shock” gameplay - no inventory management, much more linear path, etc.
I remember at the time people complained that it was “dumbed down for console”.
I still enjoyed it though, but I can see why veterans of the genre would feel things are missing or fall short while newcomers would be blown away.
