This is dumb as rocks
The most charitable interpretation is “well crocodiles didn’t change in the last 100 million years but birds did so that means maybe crocs are closer since birds evolved to get farther away”
That’s dumb because both birds and crocodiles have been changing the whole time. Just because crocs look more similar to their fossils, doesn’t mean they haven’t been evolving/drifting/etc.
Same thing any time someone talks about “sharks haven’t changed”. It’s dumb.
This is some dunning Kruger shit.

What’s with Canada and huge fires? Last couple years I’ve been getting smoke from them.

- Comment on I don't have AC but my apartment lease covers unlimited water usage and the water is very cold. How can I best use this to cool my home? 4 months ago:
Use the water pressure to power a turbine generator, then use the electricity from that generator to run a window AC unit

I did two post docs and they were great. I learned many valuable things, foremost among them that it was time to get the fuck out of academia.
Seriously I regret nothing, I had a great time.

I don’t have kids but I’d kind of like to have adult kids when I’m old. So maybe I can adopt a college age person when I’m like 50 or something

I don’t like this comic because the frequentist statistician is operating with an effective n=1. You’d ask the detector 1000 more times, and use those results to get your answer.

I want a personal assistant that actually works. Like Siri or Alexa, but it can actually do secretarial tasks.
“Find and schedule a roofing company to come fix the roof”
“See if you can get me dinner reservations for a nice Italian restaurant tomorrow night at 630”
“Write an email to bob apologizing for running over his dog”
“Find an image on the internet of a person being mauled by a bear, edit the picture so that it’s James being mauled, and send picture to him”
“Find a new show for me to watch and torrent the first episode, re-dub it in Japanese with Spanish subtitles”

“No one wants to work anymore” does not mean what it’s individual words imply. It’s like “fucking hell”. It has a different meaning.
It means “we don’t want to pay, we think labor is too expensive”
- Comment on Totalitarianism. What are the good things about it? 1 year ago:
Single best form of government, if and only if your autocrat is highly competent and selfless. In other words, it’s an awful form of government.
Decisions can be made very fast though, this is why most governments have a mechanism by which they temporarily become somewhat autocratic (martial law, appointing a chancellor, etc). Note that this has been very bad when not temporary.
- Comment on Arithmetic has a biological origin – it's an expression in symbols of the 'deep structure' of our perception 1 year ago:
Math does not have any cosmic origin, it’s a tool we came up with to represent reality; a model.
The universe does not do math. It doesn’t count the number of atoms in a teacup, it doesn’t compare heights of trees to see which gets shade. Those quantities don’t exist: we made them up so we could understand the world.
