Slight correction, Lora is shared with amateur bands, but the transmission power is low enough that it’s within unlicensed limits.
Also, they can actually transmit quite far, they just can’t penetrate well. A mountaintop node can communicate to the horizon, but inside a house at desk height it can struggle to reach a half mile.

It’s not illegal to use encryption if your transmission is below 1 watt, such as normal Wi-Fi. If you want to use more power, then you need to get a license and your traffic can’t be encrypted. Licensed amateurs can use orders of magnitude more power and cover areas city wide, rather than barely within the confines of a home.

Amateur radio shares the Wi-Fi frequencies. Amateur radio is allowed to use more power than your Wi-Fi router. So to use more power, you must be licensed and no encryption allowed.
It’s at the bottom of that chart.

It looks too high up to me, maybe a little to large. It’s definitely too close to it’s bill.
- Comment on "Family Size" has no meaning anymore 5 weeks ago:
A family size meal should have enough to at least be the entree for four people. With enchiladas that means two per person, not one. It’s a corn tortilla with stuff rolled in it, barely larger than a taquito, you need two for it to not look like a depression meal (we’re already cooking frozen enchiladas, we’re there already, it doesn’t need to be rubbed in).
I’ve noticed that sizes are shifting. Party size is now what used to be family size and can actually feed four, sometimes it’s called mega family size or some bullshit. Family size now means two adults and maybe a child <10 yrs. I remember a family size lasagna had leftovers when I was a kid.

I’m in new mexico and saw a badger crossing the road while I was driving to work. It stopped in the middle of the road, turned towards me and waited, like it was deciding whether or not to fuck up the large metal thing coming towards it. Then slowly turned and continued on it’s way when it decided I wasn’t worth it. No fear whatsoever.
- Comment on How do I... Do court? I didn't realize my license was expired and got pulled over. Now I have court tomorrow. 4 months ago:
I’m a bit late, but I used to testify in DUI cases and have sat through many court sessions.
First, you didn’t commit a crime, you made an oopsie. Don’t stress out too much, a lot of people just don’t show up, you’re a light in the dark for just showing up.
Wear nice clothes, put together the best you can with what you have, don’t go buy a suit for traffic court. Slacks and a collared shirt (no visible holes or worn spots) is typically enough, especially if you’re living paycheck to paycheck. Save your money for fixing the situation, not looking nice. Looking nice does help and shows respect to the court (judge) but trying to fix things on your own without them intervening makes you look even better.
Explain that you made a mistake and accidentally let it lapse. Talk to the public defender if you can. They are overloaded with cases but will help, court proceedings and the language they can use is confusing.
Try to make amends now, renew your license, sign up for whatever you need to sign up for, if you can’t afford to renew let the judge know that you’re walking/biking/bussing to work until you can afford to renew/sign up/etc. Ask the court for mercy since you have a clean record to the best of your knowledge and are already taking steps to remedy the situation.
Be very nice, the judge is the law in their courtroom, the only person with more power is the court stenographer because they get to correct the judge.
Bring receipts or any proof that you have of what you’re doing.
As many have said DO NOT DRIVE YOURSELF TO COURT.
