- Comment on 2x2 lumber at Home Depot is now 1.28x1.28. Nominal size is supposed to be 1.5 1 week ago:
*Planed/straight wood versus raw lumber. It threw me off when I first started building stuff and summed that a 2x4 was actually 2"x4" in all my measurements/plans
*Or it would be straight if you’re lucky and don’t pick from the top of the bin at Home Depot
- Comment on Steam will stop issuing refunds if you play two hours of a game before launch day 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, and hopefully in general for cases where an update significantly changes functionality, like DRM requiring always-on our breaking stuff like Steam Deck compatibility for those users

Uhhhh, I hate that you’re technically correct in this

Also, if the spiders get really hungry then there’s an easy lunch nearby

My first question about the lasagna was “how did it taste?”

There’s also a lot of other stuff that changed over time. New appliances may be more efficient, run on different (more environmentally friendly) coolant, have lead-free solder circuits, etc.
The thing is, a lot of that old stuff which was found to have health or environment issues also lasted longer. Leaded solder didn’t get burrs, for example. The components may also have been easier to repair.
But there’s also survivor bias. For every old freezer that sat in grandma’s basement for 2-3 decades many more ended up in a scrap heap.

How many ads actually have obese people in them? I don’t such any online but I haven’t had stuff like broadcast cable for ages. Is it a thing?
- Comment on I'm so sick of dinky shitty devices with garbage rechargeable batteries 5 months ago:
Xbox360 managed both. You either plugged in the pack with two AAA’s or you could use the one with a rechargeable battery that fit the exact same slot.
Seems a good compromise to me.
Meanwhile, Sony went with an internal battery but had a standard USB connector.
Nowadays, you can get an Xbone controller and still choose a replaceable battery pack or a rechargeable one, and it has a USB-C connector. Standard connector, choose of battery feels like a good way to go for me.
- Comment on Adobe tells you to use Chrome, not Firefox 6 months ago:
Honestly, I kinda hate the idea of a browser being able to access hardware devices.
- Comment on "Hosts" indeed, at least pick one... 6 months ago:
Parking (at a remote resort with no other reasonable way of accessing) comes to mind as one of the bullshit’ish fees I’ve had to pay, but most of the rest are usually fees passed up from the municipality etc
- Comment on Really wish people wouldn't mess others around over sales sites 7 months ago:
Facebook marketplace gets a ton of these “are they still available” posts. It’s a combination of idiots who accidentally click the button (which automatically posts this) and mostly bots that are inquiring about ads because it’s an easy way to appear like the account is "active"and a real person
- Comment on Nord VPN tv commercials are incredibly misleading 8 months ago:
They have some additional services they advertise that supposedly deals with these, though I’d imagine they require installed software which would give them more visibility into systems than I’m comfortable with.
For trackers and to some extent malware, they could potentially block some by disallowing outgoing traffic from the VPN to known tracker IP’s/domains or C&C hosts/networks, but I could see that being fairly infectivity overall with potentially for false positives.

Any pop-up or JavaScript blockers?
