Last I saw, he moved back to the UK and was struggling to find a job. The sudden, unexpected lack of communication is certainly concerning.

- Comment on Why was Hitler so mean and hateful toward one group or another? I find it hard to believe he woke up one day and said you and you suck but these people over here are good. Taking it so far as killing? 1 month ago:
Adolph’s childhood would certainly be described by nobody as a good time. The one story I recall was him stripping naked to try and squeeze through the window bars in order to escape his father’s wrath, only to get stuck. He found the humiliation of his father’s laughter worse than the beating he was expecting.

Did anybody see what happened to the spider experiments box over near the airlock? I could have sworn that was where I left it.

- Comment on How are you actually doing today? 1 month ago:
Here’s my take. I grew up in the Cold War. I saw no way out. Figured we were all done, with a state of permanent Cold War until an inevitable Hot War that ends it all. And then, very suddenly, in 1989, the Cold War was over. No nuclear explosions, no cities vaporized. Just a new and hopeful future.
And now, here we are today. I see no way out of the climate crisis, and it’s depressing. But I haven’t forgotten the lesson I learned from the Cold War. Just because I can’t see a way out, it doesn’t mean there isn’t, or that there won’t be. I don’t know how, but I’ve seen it before, humanity’s disaster somehow averted out of nowhere. Doesn’t mean we’ll skip climate disaster. Just means that just because you don’t see a way out right now, there still may be a way, and we should all work toward such a future.
Thank you for reading my Ted Talk. Fingers crossed.

It please me that you have a ready answer to this question.
It concerns me that I have not heard of them until just now. However, I’m getting old enough that that may not be relevant.

Ah, yes. I can’t speak to the intent of the meme. Not that you specifically asked me, personally, in the first place. Sorry, I’m of no help there, but if I were to guess, I’d say it’s a Jerry Seinfeld “what’s up with that” attempt at humor.
Regarding the spelling, well now, that’s just equal parts hilarious and sad.

There’s a lot of nuance in science that is ignored at non-upper-level university courses. We teach models that work for most cases, and each level deeper simply “lies” a little less, if that’s how we choose to describe what’s being taught. For 99.9% of uses, the simplest models are sufficient.
- Comment on If presidential immunity is absolute.. 10 months ago:
Then again, with that same theory, he could just eliminate Congress altogether before the voting starts for impeachment. Or place specific justices on house arrest before they vote. Basically, the idiotic idea of a president not beholden to laws is mostly the same as a despotism if the “president” wishes it to be.

You’re basically correct, in this case. I’ve chosen my official “side” as that of humanity. I’m not fully certain what that means other than I feel for the protestors/people of both sides and don’t want bad things to happen to either. The governments directly involved here, such as they are, are in the business of revenge and power. The people in general are being played by their governments, pawns to be sacrificed or otherwise used to further the purpose.

Hurricanes could, and did, wipe out entire communities. It’s easy to forget how important the study of meteorology is, as well as how vital modern weather satellites are, in keeping people safe.
