Do you really think you’re telling me something I don’t already know? Do you think I’m that stupid? Seriously? Have some respect for my intelligence. Consoles are better at the job of being an easy, affordable, simple-to-use solution that just works. They have physical media (at least the PS5 does) for releases that can still be traded and it’s just simple. I don’t want to have to deal with Linux or Windows when I’m trying to play a racing game with my friends in the living room. I don’t want to have to fight with bluetooth for the controllers or anything like that. You can do whatever you want with PC, yes, and consoles are little more than PCs with special software (PS5 uses some sort of BSD fork, Nintendo uses Android lately, and Xbox is using something Windows-based) but it’s the curated simple easy-to-use experience that I’m after. When I’m playing RTS or MMO games I’m using PC, for sure. But for everything else if I can’t enjoy it on PS5 then I need a different hobby.

Yep, and that works for some folks. For me, I prefer to keep my games and my PC separate where applicable (Obviously except specific titles that are simply better with a keyboard) and I like to enjoy my fancy surround sound system and big TV for gaming experiences on the console. Sure the graphics aren’t as good and there isn’t much in the way of modding, but that’s okay for the way I consume games. There’s also the appeal of just loving a certain console’s library

If you’re living in a home with modern wi-fi and fiber Internet, the latency isn’t much worse than a typical 4K TV outside of its built-in game mode. For many, many titles on console, this type of input lag is acceptable.
Admittedly I know the product isn’t very popular, but for those who enjoy PS games, it’s a pretty neat device.
Personally I just keep stuff on my PS5 and if I can’t be in my living room I guess I’ll wait to play :-)
It helps that I also own a Steam Deck

I would assume it’s because they would like to play PlayStation games, not PC games.
- Comment on 5 days with new phone number - 84 spam calls 3 months ago:
Your cell phone carrier is legally obligated to give you another number if you are being harassed, which this is definitely beyond any doubt harassment. Call them and be sure to use the words “I am being called constantly and harassed at my new number at all hours of the day. I am requesting a new phone number for free.” They will absolutely give you a new number based on that, free of charge.

I’m still hanging out enjoying Balatro and WoW: Cataclysm Classic this week, but I’ve also decided to take gran turismo 5 for a spin. Genuinely great game, I’m glad I was able to find a copy.

I like to think of highly processed foods as “partially pre-digested”. It’s too easy for your body to absorb which is why it leaves you feeling dissatisfied and hungry shortly after, and it still makes you fat.

I think it has more to do with the 117 million units the ps4 has sold, making the console more accessible

The PS4 and Xbox One came out a decade ago. The PS5 and Xbox Series X came out 4 years ago. What are you talking about?

I have never met a woman who told me she did this, and I’ve certainly never done this. Toys exist for a reason.

I work in the tech industry so I am forced to understand new technologies. This one is unique in that it plays on the human brain’s innate tendency to anthropomorphize things.
It also does a great job of presenting information
- Comment on New tech discovered 6 months ago:
Are you implying that dream is an AI? Or do people like, upload AI copies of him?
If it’s the former, that’s absurd. If it’s the latter, that doesn’t prove consciousness. AI voice replication is done by text to speech. A conscious human would type out what the voice should say.
- Comment on New tech discovered 6 months ago:
The LLMs of today are a useful tool, but they are far from conscious.
- Comment on New tech discovered 6 months ago:
Not in my opinion. I would say “AI people” are those who believe in it too much or evangelize it

I think the streaming industry is dying. This is a bit of a darker era in movie history, especially with the strikes and exploitation, but it will pass.
- Comment on The moviegoer experience these days 6 months ago:
This is true as well. I won’t disagree that there’s nuance here. But still, I think most people have cognitive distortions around the state of every media industry. With the huge rise of Disney and Netflix running the industry, we now see more independent films and new studios taking up the slack. Just like how we’ve had great indie games lately but the mainstream AAA stuff just isn’t impressing the same way. Think of the original couple of assassins creed games and compare them to the new ones. Sure there’s more content, but there’s not as much innovation going on.

This is just survivorship bias. Nobody remembers the bad movies from the 80s but there sure were a lot of them. Think of all the movies you pass by in the thrift store. They’re trash. We still get good movies today. Think of Everything Everywhere All At Once, or Oppenheimer, as examples that will define this era in film.
- Comment on Are cars with AWD worth it compared to FWD. 7 months ago:
Usually not worth it. AWD only matters if you’re trying to push a lot of power to go fast.
If you need snow safety, snow tires are going to do way more for you than some gigantic gas guzzling brick. Buy a vehicle that meets your needs and use snow tires in winter and you’ll be fine.
SUVs are a huge racket. Don’t waste your money and contribute further to climate change by buying inefficient garbage.
