Well that sucks. Several houses in Belgrave including mine have been without power since 18:30. Would have been good to have aircon this evening.
On the positive side I’m feeling virtuous for having recently run up the generators, checked the oil, topped up the petrol, etc. So we have a fridge / freezer and, if we still have no power tomorrow, will still be able to work.

Work done, drinking a cold cider and playing JSAB with the teenage offspring, then off to the pool.

Already planning Australia Day. Think I’ll celebrate with a pint of VB (not my usual tipple) and a read of The Lucky Country.

Considering starting a local computer club. Had a really good experience running a one-off installfest and thinking there should be IRL options for like-minded geeks to meet up on the regular.

Ohhhhhhh damn. Have I been wrongly hating on tape capguns for 40-odd years?
- Comment on I can still smell them 2 weeks ago:
The experience I had was that the hammer wasn’t consistently firing the caps. Perhaps I just had a couple of bad guns? Either way, nothing like those reliability issues with ring caps.
- Comment on I can still smell them 2 weeks ago:
I know what they are, spent pocket money on them, and loathe them. Ring caps are far more reliable (albeit more expensive; always a topic of debate when said pocket money was $3 / month).

Your suffering is not a KPI
Some days I doubt that.

I did this some time ago - I have a very heavily filtered Mastodon feed, and a carefully curated RSS feed - both mostly around tech news, and as little to do with LLMs as possible.
Don’t regret this for a minute from a mental health perspective, especially when something happens like this.

Born in London, grew up in New Zealand, living in Melbourne. The socks were a gift :)

Thanks 💖 The X200 was a gift from a colleague back in the late 2010s, when it was already very old. But it runs Plan 9 beautifully :) I’ve been tinkering with it with the vague idea of switching to it from FreeBSD as a daily driver. I think maybe I could do without Emacs but I just need a “real” Web browser too much to make the switch.
