Not sure where little dude goes in bad weather because it’s not home.
If he’s anything like our past cats, to the nearest place with an open fire that feeds him treats.

It takes twice as long to get to Berwick from Belgrave by public transport, as it does to get to the CBD from Belgrave 🤯

Yeah but you know what I meant 😉

USAID wasn’t charity though was it? I believe it was taxpayer funded.

I’m currently running a Pixel 4 with LineageOS; I’m hoping it lasts long enough to buy a Motorola with GrapheneOS.

Need to find cheaper SIMs for the three offspring. Currently on Optus through AussieBB at $25 / month each 😰 Loving AussieBB support but that’s expensive for kids’ phones. Anyone got any telco recommendations for / against for cheap mobile plans?

Not only would I be okay with that, I’d hope they then replaced all my avatar images online with that photo.

Just had a visit from the local JWs. Definitely one of the less annoying types of proselytiser.

Or it was retrospective.
“Frank what the fuck have you been doing while I was away visiting my family out of state?”
“Um, er, ah, dodging the draft! Yeah, that’s it. Certainly not a month long bender.”

I do not want to train a bioengineered intelligence with guns to do that.

Heading into the CBD this morning - haven’t been on public transport in months, usually work from home.
Sure enough, delays of >10m just announced due to equipment issues.
And people wonder why RTO mandates are so unpopular. Shonky PT is just one of the many reasons.

I think the Vatican is sad that LLMs are encroaching on their turf of “very expensively harming people and especially minors while hallucinating about things that don’t exist”.

Haha my first thought was “I wonder if it’s possible to build a general purple CPU out of 555 timers, then get DOOM running on that sucker.”
Of course, someone has already taken the first steps towards such a monstrosity.

Well that sucks. Several houses in Belgrave including mine have been without power since 18:30. Would have been good to have aircon this evening.
On the positive side I’m feeling virtuous for having recently run up the generators, checked the oil, topped up the petrol, etc. So we have a fridge / freezer and, if we still have no power tomorrow, will still be able to work.

Work done, drinking a cold cider and playing JSAB with the teenage offspring, then off to the pool.

Considering starting a local computer club. Had a really good experience running a one-off installfest and thinking there should be IRL options for like-minded geeks to meet up on the regular.

Ohhhhhhh damn. Have I been wrongly hating on tape capguns for 40-odd years?
- Comment on I can still smell them 2 months ago:
The experience I had was that the hammer wasn’t consistently firing the caps. Perhaps I just had a couple of bad guns? Either way, nothing like those reliability issues with ring caps.
- Comment on I can still smell them 2 months ago:
I know what they are, spent pocket money on them, and loathe them. Ring caps are far more reliable (albeit more expensive; always a topic of debate when said pocket money was $3 / month).

I did this some time ago - I have a very heavily filtered Mastodon feed, and a carefully curated RSS feed - both mostly around tech news, and as little to do with LLMs as possible.
Don’t regret this for a minute from a mental health perspective, especially when something happens like this.
