Nice, thanks for sharing, I’ll have a look!
In the past, I’ve had aspirations to build a proper studio with acoustic treatments from somewhere like realtraps.com. Nowadays, there are VSTs that do a decent job of removing room reverb from a recording, so I’d be less inclined to go all out on expensive room treatments.
However, less expensive treatments just to make a room more pleasant for conversation would certainly be worthwhile. I also like the idea of making them more decorative like you mentioned.

Mind linking to what you found to be insanely effective? Might be a dumb question, but not positive what “sound panels” are and acoustics can be pretty fickle from my experience.

Not sure why people don’t say, “let’s continue our conversation over here so we aren’t blocking a narrow passageway in an heavy traffic area so people can get past and stop giving us dirty looks.” Never occurs to these dodo birds for whatever reason.

Meh, I’ll wait for the emulator. At this point, I mostly emulate the Switch games I own on my PC because it’s more convenient to have all my games in one place without bothering with cartridges. Switch pro controllers are also overpriced, so I’d rather use my existing XBox controllers, but that requires a dongle for every controller and the Switch dock doesn’t have many USB ports. The 8bitdo singles only work half the time. Emulation is just a better experience, and Nintendo’s lawyers have been real assholes about it. Which is why my 20+ Switch games are the last things I’ll ever buy from Nintendo.

With all the bad shit happening due to corrupt government agencies, it’s refreshing to read comments in this post about how the FAA is still anal as fuck like they should be, though flying on a Boeing still makes me nervous.

Ha, it’s funny when a movie like this is hated by critics on RT, but loved by the audience. The critic score is basically useless and I just ignore it.

It’s funny how many of my choices are made based on whether I can do something on a website vs. being forced to make a phone call. Currently, I’m looking for a vet to get my cat spayed, and all the ones close to me require a phone call, so I’m contemplating a longer drive for an appointment I can schedule online vs. having to call to make the appointment.

I work in tech and a lot of my interests are geared around computers. I have other interests as well, and also enjoy being outdoors, but can’t imagine never wanting to see a computer again.

You can already get a decent generic brand mini gaming PC for like $380 with a Ryzen 7 7840HS, which has a 780M that is twice as powerful as the Steam Deck’s GPU and a significantly faster CPU. I have my doubts that Valve can pull off making a mini PC 2x as powerful as that for like $500. I’m guessing it’ll probably be more like $700-$800.
I like the idea of the Steam Machine, but it won’t be worth it to me at that price for a HTPC and PC games I’d be playing on the couch. A cheaper mini PC sounds like a better fit.

Gwynne Shotwell mentions in this video that she saw a mechanical engineer’s talk when she was young and loved her suit. She said she’s hesitant to tell that story, but considers it an important topic because it is ultimately what inspired her to go into STEM.
I think her hesitance is due to the fact that men don’t understand and might ridicule her. For a young lady, seeing a successful woman in STEM bucking the stereotypes, just being herself, and not conforming to male standards changes their perception of the field. Maybe a lot of men shrug when they see Rita’s sparkly dress, but it’s inspirational to many girls with aspirations in STEM.

I can confirm that I got a laptop a couple years ago for $800 that has a RTX 4060, i7, and 32Gi of RAM. Beats a PS5 on paper, which is supposedly more equivalent to a RTX 2070, though games optimized for PS5 hardware make the difference more marginal.

- Block the game from the Internet so it can’t collect data on you or go offline for a while and it may or may not still work.
#4 is the main reason I’m hesitant to install games from Steam instead of alternative versions of the game that don’t have this limitation. But then installing games on Linux often becomes a time-consuming feat of trial and error.
