Well damn, I totally missed that Scott Adams died!
Its late but I still feel like something celebratory is deserved… Maybe a bowl of ice cream with a birthday candle? Yeah I’m gonna go with that.

The rest were longer and its been a while, but there was one about asking if there were any questions before starting to check the animal, where to put the paperwork, things like that. His wife used to do all that with him at the office, she had a busted ankle or something going on with her leg iirc, and I think she made the first version of the list around then.
That was the only really stand out funny one though, the rest were more or less procedural bits.
We see him at the county fair sometimes, though he’s getting a bit up there and slowing down. Doesn’t remember me or my wife in the slightest but absolutely recognized our dog every time. She passed this year though so he probably won’t know who we are without mentioning her.

Love this for all kinds of people! That genuine interest in their field is something I look for everywhere.
Once had a vet completely ignore me, greet my dog, and had to get a reminder from another member of the staff to realize/acknowledge that I was in the room too. Stuck with him until his retirement, he was the same until the end.
Though he did have a checklist his wife made for him some point after that first visit, which had as its first item - and I’m quoting here because he showed it to me after I had been going to him for years
Greet the HUMAN!
Its been a couple years, still can’t find a vet as dedicated to animals as he was. Dogs, birds, turtles, whatever - if you could carry the animal in, he knew about it to an incredible detail.
- Comment on When you are not employed but need to go to a workshop/conference/public events that require you to lost out your company and title, what do you put on without sounding awkward? 4 weeks ago:
Self employed, Independent Contractor, or spend $25-50 (or whatever it is in your county) to file a DBA (Doing Business As) and you’ve got an official company name to use.

See for me I don’t think killing babies is any more or less appropriate. They are both horrifying questions that I can’t understand anyone not being able to say “no” to either question.
If youre back in time you could just work to not create a genocidal piece of shit. Also, this presumes that he was the only problem - there were many other horrible people involved, so there would likely just be another to take his place anyway.
Both questions are just off the charts level wrong to me and worth reporting. Though I bet there were plenty of other things said in the chat which would have also fit this ban message.

- Comment on Ecosia has Planted 250 MILLION Trees 1 month ago:
This is constantly monitored and adapted. For example in Tanzania, they had 8 sites targeted for reforestation. 5 of them were healthy and growing with a high survival rate, but 3 of them ended up needing additional diversity to thrive.
They also don’t plant the trees themselves, but work with local groups such as women’s collectives, and partner with other organizations for the ongoing monitoring of survival and growth. 44moles (german company) is one partner I know of that provides ongoing monitoring, along with kanop.io.
The groups they work with are posted in their blog, which may have more information.
That said - monitoring is a more recent (past year or so) effort, so data is going to be limited. You’d need to wait longer for detailed information on survival rates.

I’m not him so I couldn’t say, but considering I know he does volunteer cleanup days at the trails, I really dont think he looks down on garbage pickup the way you and others seem to be, that its only fulfilling because of money.

Tbh I’d kind of trust them more. Even if they got off thinking of my feet later (which, who cares, have at it), they are going to put a lot more effort and get a lot more knowledge than someone just doing it for the high billing rate, dont you think? And probably care more about the quality of my arch than the guy writing a prescription for orthotics because the manufacturer just bought him a nice dinner.
Just because they are pervs doesnt mean they’d be bad at it, I’d say they’d be even better at it than most. Wouldn’t you think?
- Comment on it's a matter of motivation 2 months ago:
For example i doubt that many people enjoy working at garbage disposable or basically any waste disposal
Ehhh I bet you’d be wrong. Only anecdotal obviously, but at practice and games for the kids, a lot of dads just chat when there isnt much going on. A couple of them work for the local garbage company. One of them commented that he doesnt know how I stay inside and work all day, he really enjoys being outside with the trucks in the morning, then enjoying the afternoon outside with the kids. Another one is a mechanic for them, he always thought the trucks were cool, and he still enjoys working on them (though he will 100% tell you, in great detail, which manufacturers suck for various parts). Haven’t talked much with the last one about work, I think he is the only one just straight up doing it for money though.
And who knows, maybe the guy who likes being outside says that to be positive about his choices in life, but I see him at the park with the kids a lot, I’ve run into him heading out to the trails on his mountain bike, etc, so I believe him that he’s perfectly happy doing it.
Automation for unwanted tasks is great though, I agree, and where automation should be focused.

- Comment on its actually worse bc ports are counted twice for 2.0 & 3.0 2 months ago:
Depends on the model, so you’ll have to take a look at each. The really big ones usually have a port rather than a captive cable, the smaller ones it varies wildly.
- Comment on its actually worse bc ports are counted twice for 2.0 & 3.0 2 months ago:
Sabrent. Bit more money, but I like the ones with built in power switches per port (handy for testing disconnection events), and the build quality is solid. Power supplies they provide can be a bit bulky, but I mount them in my rack so its not really a problem for me.
Anker I like for their slimmer powered hubs, but those mostly sit in my laptop backpack, not the daily driver on my home office desk.

For my work, I personally have:
- Webcam
- Mic
- Dongle for mouse
- Dongle for headset
- Wired keyboard
- Monitor 2 touchscreen
- Macropad
- Ethernet adapter 1 (connection to work network)
- Ethernet adapter 2 (connection to small switch with no uplinks, for device testing)
- Ethernet adapter 3 (connection to local avoip network)
- External drive
- Microcontroller programmer (universal, let me cut down on a few other adapters I had)
- Serial adapter
- Card reader
- Video capture - analog
- Video capture - digital
- Audio interface for xlr I/o and my good headphones
- NFC reader/writer
Then a couple of loose cables for connecting the random devices, like a tablet for adb purposes, DSLR, etc. Not including the built-in devices on the laptop which show up as USB devices, like the crappy built-in webcam, microsd only card reader in the worlds stupidest spot, etc.
I’d say its easy to hit 15 - thats only the USB devices attached to my work laptop.

I very firmly disagree.
This is compliance in advance of laws that will do nothing to accomplish what they claim, will provide a means for corporations to absolve themselves of wrongdoing, provides an additional means of exposing PII unintentionally, and is an outright farce of an implementation.
The danger absolutely is how its used on the front end - and we can absolutely expect the most abusive approaches possible in that regard.
This is alarming to me because we’ve seen the same type of thing getting pushed over and over and over. Despite decades of experts showing how bad of an idea this is (tech, legal, and child development experts), seeing this still being pushed demonstrates the goal. “Protecting children” is the same bit of sprinkles on top that it always has been, and complying in advance with this is a mistake.
I’m not really interested in waiting for the abusive actions we are absolutely going to see. I’m shocked, however, at the number of people who think this is perfectly fine, where I would expect more people to know better.
