I think he idea is compelling. I don’t like to be dependent on banks for digital transactions. Being locked out from making basic transactions because the bank detected ”suspicious behavior” is just awful.
Unfortunately I hate the players of cryptocurrency even more. It’s a huge snake oil pump and dump Ponzi scheme to my eyes.

Not necessarily closures, but it involved many dynamically generated lists of lambdas hidden under many layers of abstraction.

True. However, in this case I believe this guy just had a weird admiration for complexity.

In my project there has been this guy who produced more lines of code than most other. All of his code is terribly convoluted mess no one can work with. Also buggy and slow as hell. It’s been many years since he left the company, and the negative effects are still seen today.
Luckily we’ve been able to detach ourselves from the worst parts.

For me there are times where I ”drink too hard”, and it leaves some nasty chest pain. Rare, but I hate when it happens.
- Comment on Do you cheat in video games? 3 weeks ago:
Not really. Taking away the challenge ruins the fun.
But I liked activating cheat codes in GTA: San Andreas. Spent many hours traveling around the map in a flying tank and causing random mayhem.

I have an ok relationship with my parents. Never been offended about these ”insults”.

They probably have the finances to spend as much time they want this time around. I wouldn’t be surprised their Joe Danger money dried up during NMS development.

I’m mostly a layman. The only thing I know is that MOND is the leading competing explanation. I leave it for experts to decide which one is correct.

Things behave in ways that can’t be explained by our current understanding of physics.
For example, galaxies rotate faster than we would expect. It’s as if there’s more matter in the galaxy than we could see. Scientists use the name ”dark matter” for this phenomenon.
Scientists don’t know if dark matter really exists, or if there’s other ways to explain this phenomenon. Another explanation is that there’s no extra matter, but that this is just how gravity behaves in large scales.
What’s interesting is that different galaxies has different amounts of ”dark matter”. Some have almost no ”dark matter” at all.

- Comment on Steam Machine is huge for indie development 1 month ago:
I believe Valve’s intention is to lay the foundation for third party devices, like how it went with Steam Deck. Their business model is to open up their storefront to more people - not to sell hardware.
If that’s the case, then Steam Machine will have little effect on indie development.

Steam Machine feels more like a console that happens to also be a PC. If reasonably priced, the question is why anyone would want to buy Xbox or PlayStation when Steam Machine has a bigger library than both combined - on launch.

I’ve been using the same base Xbox One controller for a while. It was easy to set up for Linux. Just had to install some extra package but after that it was good to go.
Out of all the mainline console controllers, Xbox One’s is my favorite. They really nailed it with that one.

- Comment on For those of you who enjoy open-world games, how big of a world is too big? 1 month ago:
It’s not about the size, but more about density of meaningful content. I like Elden Ring because every nook and cranny feels worth exploring. It’s the game that dares to hide optional areas behind optional areas, all with their own unique enemies and bosses.
On the other hand, taking Elden Ring as an example again, the mini dungeons were too repetitive. The first time visiting a catacomb is exciting, but it turns into quite a chore after the third time and onwards. You’ve already seen it all. Same thing with the dragon battles.
I think Elden Ring overall strikes a good balance with amount of surprises per square meter.

- Comment on Linux gamers on Steam finally cross over the 3% mark 1 month ago:
My experience is the opposite.
Whenever I have a problem with Linux, there’s often a solution available after some Googling. Often it’s just changing something in a configuration file.
Whenever I have a problem with Windows, there’s often that one thread where someone details the exact same problem, and there’s some ”official Microsoft tech support” whose only contribution is to ask if they have tried to reboot the computer and then radio silence.
