It’s not so much a whole different personality, but I certainly show a completely different side of myself to my parents than with my friends. I’ve noticed that there are some people with strong personalities who seem to treat everyone the same way no matter what. I’m the opposite. I don’t have the same relationship with any two people; I negotiate boundaries with people individually. In a mixed group setting, that can become real tricky to keep track of. Not sure if this is a neurodivergent thing but I would guess so.
- Comment on Why do crappy parents defend their child when they are masively publicly misbehaving and being shitheads? 1 week ago:
Are there actual rules about noise in the hallway? If there are, is she aware of them? Is there anyone who could potentially enforce those rules other than you? If there are no rules, then it could just be a cultural difference, and good luck to you trying to enforce your own rules in public spaces. You think it’s entirely reasonable to have a silent hallway, but maybe the other lady has never lived in a quiet place her whole life. Maybe she can’t see why you would want that at all.

Do you understand how voting works? Each person gets one vote. Do you think I, or anyone else, could have somehow forced the 30% who didn’t vote to vote, and not only that but to vote the way we wanted them to? How am I responsible for the choices of people 2,000 miles across the country that I’ve never interacted with? Do I have any control over the propaganda these people are exposed to?
At any given time, only 30-40% of the US is actually represented by the government. At least 30% of us directly voted against all this. Comments like yours make me feel like you’re trying to erase our existence… but I’m sure that’s helpful for somebody.

Those food companies have spent decades doing chemical research on how to make that food as addictive as possible. Then of course there’s all the marketing on top of that. Most people can’t break free of it.

From what I remember, Quorn is not actually vegan, the breading contains egg. Unless they’ve changed their recipe…

Do bathroom fans even exist outside of the US? I’m mostly joking, but seriously did not see a single one while staying in Japan or Europe.

So far, Cashapp is still offering free filing. Feels weird to use it, but it’s worked out fine for the past few years. I refuse to go back to TurboTax and their predatory free-until-its-not pricing.

Humans have always understood our experience through stories and myths. Literally every civilization throughout history has them. It’s the people who refuse to consume any fiction that I don’t understand. Even when a story is entirely fictional, surely there is still meaning in metaphor and juxtaposition and human understanding to be found.
- Comment on Gen Z's 'overemployed' solution for a broken economy: 5 jobs and $3K per day. It's totally legal 6 months ago:
I think it’s selfish. How many of those jobs could have gone to someone who actually needs one? It’s essentially job hoarding. If you’re that much of a productive genius, why don’t you (the people with multiple well-paying jobs, not you personally) volunteer or start your own business and do something to actually improve the world instead of just hoarding wealth.

Yeah, ORGANIZE. Like with actual leaders and plans and shit, because individual violence isn’t going to accomplish anything.

I used to have that problem. I switched to 30 spf and don’t get burned anymore. I can’t really explain it, but my theory is that 50+ is marketing BS and doesn’t actually do anything. Or it could be that Banana Boat brand just really sucks and Hawaiian is more like lotion so it actually stays on my skin and also moisturizes, which probably helps because dry skin = gonna get burned.
