Literally the only rational answer. Stop giving a fuck about what people look like unless you’re explicitly looking for someone to fuck

I helped start a subreddit that was like “thatweirdbathroomdream” or something, I don’t remember it was easily a decade ago explicitly for people to talk about their weird bathrooms! Apparently it’s a typically American dream (so is losing your teeth but cutting your hair/hair falling out is more universal) and typically includes unusual open spaces, lack of privacy, unusual lighting, they typically also are clean like this or filthy, or at least the toilet you interact with could be filthy. I find collective cultural dreams to be SO fascinating

I’m confused why you would lose your license for being hit by someone else, that only happens if you are the one who caused the accident and were negligent enough that it was an unreasonable accident.
That said I do believe driving is a basic skill, in an emergency knowing how to drive can be critical, it can be life or death and not being able to transport yourself or others can have very serious consequences. Independence is another issue, you want to rely on other people to do nearly anything for the rest of your life? Unless you live in a large city with good public transportation giving up the ability to drive will absolutely cripple your personal development in the long term, you remain a child reliant on those around you and it’s really not cute once you’re 40 and still begging to hitch rides.
I don’t think think you need to be driving all the time but you absolutely should know how and be familiar incase you ever do need to respond to an emergency or you end up in an abusive situation. Choosing to remain dependent serves no one. Find a better driving school, ask your boyfriend to practice with you, drive in big empty parking lots or low speed roads, you’re literally in control of the car wether you feel like it or not and building confidence and getting some experience will help your feelings match reality

I think not going into that a little bit, like “education will be a key component to this industry’s survival and success” is a missed opportunity because that is also the reality. Reality includes causes, this didn’t happen in a vacuum.
As for solutions, beyond advocating for education and endorsing unions or something else equally broad, no he’s definitely not obligated to go into that

You could offer more money, better benefits, better/shorter hours, vacation time etc. I’ve heard young people are really motivated by all of those things
This feels like “we’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas”

That makes me so happy to hear! I kept thinking that during this video, that he’s putting the cart before the horse. Made in America is important sure but the cost is significantly more which is problematic when you’re an working class person who literally doesn’t have the cash to buy American made, we need to be sending our young people back to trades not say everyone needs college! I’m a 2004 Graduate and so many people in my class went into so much debt and for what? A barely above minimum wage desk job? I was a pariah for not going to college but going to a tech school.
If we don’t have young people in these trades, making fair wages, we have no middle class and if we have no middle class he’s going to run out of $75 scrub brush buyers sooner rather than later.
The video got really close to being a dog whistle to me a few times he did mention he wanted to talk about unions, then didn’t, I just felt like there was so much focus on “manufacturing is actually good for the US” - and it is, I’m a leftie but I agree we do want some manufacturing jobs, especially the high skilled ones, but almost no focus on how we keep these industries alive, and grow them, and how important it is that young people can access this training and why it’s important to bring education into the conversations about “made in America” - high skill manufacturing isn’t going to sprout up over night, it’s why he struggled so hard to source parts, and the video very much framed this industry as something that is an organic industry that will just be there if we buy it… which feels dishonest if we look at the bigger picture and all the lack of both knowledge and experience that will really make this industry struggle

- Comment on where are worker rights parades? why are we focusing on very limited issues? 1 week ago:
Have you ever noticed when you make a point there always someone saying well what about x, y and z? Or pointing out that something they personally relate to wasn’t directly called out so they’re being excluded? A lot of people would see something focused on workers rights/labor and go off on some tangent about how they’re unemployed so they’re being discriminated against or how it’s more important that we focus on trans issues and labor is just a distraction/you’re purposefully trying to distract from other movements or the group that only wants to destroy because they don’t believe what we have is worth saving (these types are overwhelmingly abelist and don’t realize how much disabled people would suffer and die if we just threw the whole system out) we don’t have a labor focused movement because there’s so many voices that want center stage for their pet interests and they understand a large unifying movement that allows people they see as less morally righteous on the door is a threat to them and their imagined moral superiority

- Comment on Do you care about up/down votes? 1 week ago:
No, not at all. When you get a ton of downvotes but zero responses, assuming you didn’t just post literal nonsense, I consider it proof I’m correct it’s just a truth people don’t like. When you’re wrong people will downvote you and tell you why, which should be a learning experience that a person should be humble enough to accept but just downvotes or responses only attacking you not you points is pure validation you’re speaking an uncomfortable truth

Look at it from the other persons perspective they 1) feel comfortable doing this and 2) have the financial means to do so why not let them give their best friend a nice guilt? I’m very fortunate to be at the income level I am but as a mom of a 19 and 20 year old if they had asked me to give their best friend a phone I would ask some questions like, do they need one? How old is theirs? Why can’t they afford one? Assuming they had a shitty old phone because they’re poor I would absolutely be ok with my kid giving a (long term) best friend a phone, especially if the friend was also open to it
Assuming they’re just well off and have normal parents I think it’s very possible this is a reasonable gift.
Anytime we have an expensive gift to a friend they personally called us on the phone to thank us, it was always awkward as hell to me but polite, so I think that’s the etiquette when you get a gift life this, to call and say tanks in person or to see them and thank them in person (the kids parents, assuming they bestie didn’t pay for it all on his own in which case that’s between the two of them imo)

I remember being a tween in the mid/late 90s and trying to convince why Mormon friends why I believed being trans was real and possible, not that I especially understood what trans was. I figured if nature was so varied and had so many irregularities there was no reason that being born into the wrong body/the wrong sex couldn’t be one of those irregularities. Being this was the 90s and the topic hadn’t been politicized we all came to the conclusion it was reasonable for biology to “allow for” trans identities. I feel like even basic biology covered the concept of a person being trans just fine
