I’ve never understood why people panic when a VIP is shot. Random public murder, sure, but clearly you the public are not in danger in these situations.

I migrated to Linux last week. I found out that Rocket League was unsupported on Linux. So I went to Steam and enabled Proton compatibility for the game, and ran the Windows version with no issues.

It hurts, but you may be right. I hate trendsetters for price hikes. Hopefully releases like Peak for $20 can help remind folk that AAAs aren’t always worth the base cost. I just really dislike how capitalism ruins everything, in this case the obsession over currency has led to the games development industry being corporatized; for all but indies it’s largely about how to appease the consumer and maximize profit, instead of how to make something people will love and get enough sales to make another game.
I came in to the franchise at Vice City Stories and San Andreas, loved them! I do know a little about the chronological releases and that there were spinoffs that for some reason weren’t numbered aha. So:
Vice City (Miami 1980s) GTA III -
- Liberty City (sort of NYC) San Andreas -
- Los Santos (Los Angeles)
- San Fierro (San Francisco?)
- Las Venturas (Las Vegas) GTA IV -
- Liberty City (New York City) GTA V ( -
- Los Santos again
- North Yankton (North Dakota)
- Surroundings are a mashup of several real-life counterparts GTA VI -
- Vice City again
I preferred San Andreas, and liked it mainly for the size and beauty of the map (post storyline appeal) and radio stations, Vice City for the collectibles, GTA IV for the brilliant and crazy storyline characters, and GTA V for the same reason as San Andreas.
A couple of my all-time favourite games were Rockstar (Need for Speed Most Wanted and Midnight Club 3, underground street racing).

- Comment on Sony is releasing a new PS5 console, but it's a downgrade 3 weeks ago:
Because it is cheaper to manufacture.
They buy storage with 12 channels, 512Gib Nand Chip per channel. This means each SSD has 512Gibx12ch=768 GiB of storage, or 825 GB.
Key:
Gib = gibibit, giga/binary/bit, 1024⁴ bits GiB = gibibyte, 1024⁴ x 8 bits GB = gigabyte, giga/(decimal)/byte, 1000⁴ x 8 bits - Comment on Sony is releasing a new PS5 console, but it's a downgrade 3 weeks ago:
You referring to the expansion drives that slot in the back and are hotswappable? Most expensive storage medium I’ve ever bought. Problem was, there was no alternative… Internal storage ignored, ofc

- Comment on Rockstar Games Working Closely With Remedy Entertainment on Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake 3 weeks ago:
Fuck Rockstar. I changed my email accounts but forgot to change Rockstar first. Now, after buying GTA V on Xbox and Steam and sinking a lot of time into it over two accounts, they added some mandatory launcher on Steam that forces you to login to their Social Club. Mandatory launcher calls an account that I can’t unlink, triggers mandatory 2FA to an email that doesn’t exist. The cunts refuse to help despite my willingly handing over a lot of private information - their support system is as good as fake. The end result is I have sank >£100 in buying their games and they ensure that not only do I not get to continue my account on GTA V, but I have been permanently locked out and actually impossible to play any Rockstar Social - walled game on Steam.
- Comment on Modern Windows in a nutshell 4 weeks ago:
My main gripe is Windows Defender. I have an app that integrates with Home Assistant and Windows keeps flagging a component as a Trojan virus. Makes sense, as it’s supposed to access admin level functions to read some sensors and enable remote power functions.
But for years I’ve seen MsMpEng.exe, or the antivirus, constantly scan my 4TB HDD, either looking for viruses or doing some stupid NTFS remapping thing. It’s loud and only spun up when idle on Win10, but became more aggressive on Win11 with less time to start scanning and not stopping when I move the mouse.
The latest development with breaking my app just means I’m more vigilant in turning the entire antivirus off when it turns on and starts scanning.

Oh damn, the US is already at Atlas Shrugged Part I?
For reference Atlas Shrugged is a movie trilogy about the impending collapse of capitalism from the perspective of billionaire CEOs of corporations, with some magic involved but we don’t talk about that, and the primary focus is that now the public is made irrelevant by poverty etc. the government start to sanction the corps and effectively destroy them. It plays out like an NBC drama.
- Comment on Why UK police arrested 466 people at protest for banned Palestine Action group 1 month ago:
You either die advocating for peace, human rights and liberties or you live long enough to see yourself be arrested for terrorism.
By the way, the definition of a terrorist is one who threatens other humans’ lives as ransom or as a message. Threatening the aesthetic appearance of a military jet is not terrorism.

- Comment on "ok, imagine a gun." 1 month ago:
Well, for my world it’s interesting because the passenger seat is just that. But before the evolution of tech and everything else heavily affected travel, the front passenger seat held importance in that the one who sits there can assist in reading a map, adjusting the passenger wing mirror, monitoring the side directly while parking or other tight manoeuvres, emotional support for police stops, handling a drink so the driver can hydrate without endangering anyone, an extra pair of eyes on the less vital areas etc… Now these benefits of a primary passenger are almost nonexistent

Amazon and their copycats seem to be calling them ‘nailers’, probably because it’s easier to filter out the constructive guns from destructive, prohibited ones. But Amazon is evil so it’s probably unrelated

- Comment on Payment Processors Are Pressuring Major Gaming Vendors to Pull LGBTQ+ and NSFW Titles 1 month ago:
Clickbait doesn’t explain properly - the reason queer games were removed from Itch.io is because (and this is another issue) they were one of many who labeled anything LGBTQ+ as NSFW or adult-themed. They were still banning under 18s from learning and experiencing diverse life. Romance ≠ sexuality ≠ identity but slow people don’t understand that.
