I dont see any on here I would swear by.
I have taken a liking to the Pilot B2Ps, they are made of recycled water bottles, I liked them simply for the fact that they’re the one type of pen we have in abundance at the office that no one else bothers to steal for some reason.
I like the Staples TRU RED series too.
what the hell is wrong with me, a year ago I’d be obsessing over some video game or hobby and now im discussing my pen model preferences, I think I’ve crossed the proto-boomer threshold

My answer is going to include a short story as a pretext.
In Canada in the 90s, we used to have these commercials from an organization called “Concerned Childrens Advetisers” the commercials were about a variety of things, some being positive reinforcement about self esteem, others were more on the nose like not eating glue…
there was one important one that would come on a lot called “The North American House Hippo”. And for about 60 seconds it would tell kids about tiny hippopotamus that come out in your kitchen at night, eat crumbs of dropped food, and make beds under your fridge or in the pantry or something… At the end of the commercial, the narrator says something to the effect of “That was an interesting story, but Its not real, not everything you read in a book or see on the TV is real.” the internet wasn’t mentioned because it wasn’t widespread enough yet… but it had a simple lesson. Not everything you see in media is real.
that lesson hasn’t been transfered over to the majority of people, or more likely, most people are not responsible enough to be trusted with the internet because they dont know how to filter, they dont know how to think critically when presented with information online, and its even worse now in the age of deepfakes and AI, that even the smart ones get fooled now.
Collectively we’re dumber because people have allowed their public facebook comment section keyboard warrior persona, to take over their real lives. Who people are in person and who people are online, are two different individuals, but the online persona is the one who is in charge. When we are in public, we usually revert to our social norms, respect each other. But when you’re a keyboard warrior, your impotent rage and urge to yell the N word and other slurs is unchecked because there isnt anyone present to break your nose for saying or doing something antisocial or arrogant.

I dunno your demographic, but the pervailing sentiment is that SL was cool when people were ignorant and impressionable teens and young adults, but as we aged and grew up, it stopped being cool, and most people moved on to other things.
- Comment on Which game is it? 1 week ago:
the technology has improved tenfold, the game looks and runs so different now that its virtually unrecognizable, but the communities are shit, the user count is at best half as many as it was in the late 00s to early 10s. and most of the people online are either just parked in a shitty club, usually AFK, hiding in their private land, innnocuously buying stuff for their house or character, lagging the place up with scripted farms and such… a very small number of worthwhile game / activity and roleplay communities (RP is still basically a game…) … and most everyone else is probably e-banging…
- Comment on Which game is it? 1 week ago:
when you say server, I think you’re talking about regions (colloquially called “sims or simulators” in game) while its true they do run on servers, usually 4-16 regions packed onto a single server… its easier to think of them as islands of virtual real estate, some are separate individual tiny islands of 256x256 meters, whereas others are joined to others of the same size. all of course, seperate from the continents which are owned by the company but land can be rented and such
privately owned land people can do whatever they want on it provided it isnt breaking law or TOS, and theres some weird shit that falls through the cracks.
the concept of SL is fascisnating, how it all works in the concept of a digital world, its been doing the metaverse 20 years before Mark Zuckerberg got the idea. the problem is, people are fucking freaks. and the metaverse is as freaky as they are.

Second Life. If you could call it a game.
I started “playing” it in 2006. Went through long periods of not playing it… but I always come back… and it’s always worse

I cant wait until the European/Mexican/Chinese parts that I order from the USA that always arrive with a customs declaration of Origin:USA … starts biting me in the ass because of their ignorance.
the better option is to just stop doing business with American shops. and thats what I’ve chosen, the USPS and Canadian Postal service are both such shitholes, that I have legitimatley recieved stuff from the UK, Poland and Denmark faster than I’ve recieved stuff fom Illinois and Iowa , in the orders I’ve made this year. For small things too.

someone else here suggested that the source code for TS/RA2 was lost. which wouldnt surprise me.
These are games that were made when and before the Zoomers were being born. they are ancient by most people’s standards.
- Comment on EA has open sourced Command & Conquer: Red Alert under GPLv3 4 weeks ago:
its odd that they open sourced Generals and the first CNC and Red Alert, but nothing in between.
CNC3 was my favorite, and I’ll die on that hill . but RA2 was obivously the fan favorite, and Tiberian Sun had probably the best atmosphere

- Comment on Amazon Artificially Discounting Items $0.01 Below the Free Shipping Limit 1 month ago:
I dont think you understand how “Amazon” exists as we know it.
Amazon, the store. the store that sells stuff at “unbeatable” prices and has convenient fast shipping options. exists because Amazon, the corporation, makes most of its money through platforms that are NOT the store.
for example the AWS division, which handles web hosting, Makes money hand over fist compared to the store. so they can afford to sell stuff at either a loss, or breaking even. (and they’re still somehow making money off the ordeal. dont ask me where)

I was briefly into 40k in the 00s, but once the 2010s started I slowly started getting an ick feeling from it but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
specifically, I was still cool with most of the lore, but the Imperium fanboys were getting to be unfun to be around. As I got older and wised up, I figured out around the same time many others did, that these same people just had a fascism fetish in general.
so with all that said.
Death to the false emperor Let the galaxy burn BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD

the fact that theres an argument in favor of that is insane. but its where we are.
I’m Canadian, I spent the last 3 years mentally numbing myself and accepting the possibility that we could formally be at war with Fascist Russia in my lifetime, it’s not that much of a gear shift to use that same consideration that there could be a war with a Fascist American faction too. Except the whole, My country turns into Frozen Iraq and has to deal with an American occupation. (Chechnya without the beards?)

Stop chasing exes through your 20s. Especially the one from a different country. Even if it didn’t crash and burn it never would have worked anyway just due to immigration
- Comment on How can you bypass a Reddit site ban? 2 months ago:
walk away from reddit. try to find a similar community to whatever it was you lost, here. if not, make one! if that fails. get a new device, and only use reddit when you’re away from your usual internet networks.
but seriously, its easier to just walk away from reddit. reddit is an echo chamber of extremism and hopeless cluenessness. on all ends of the spectrum.
The same thing happened to me and I largely stopped caring after I discovered Lemmy. its been a lot better for my mental health too.
- Comment on If the United States has Cuba banned from things, how does Guantanamo Bay exist? 2 months ago:
Cuba cant make them leave. There isn’t an ally who can back them up and go toe to toe with them like there was for a brief period between 1950s and the late 1980s…

the conspiracy brain in me, looks at ranting from people like elon musk, who say there’s going to be a population collapse, and Im thinking of Resident evil, (the bad movies).
I think they’re banking on the hope that in 20 years there’s going to be billions fewer people in the world, we’re already close to setting it off with the unprecedented increase of state vs state wars since 2020. Azerbaijan/Armenia, Israel/Levant, and even bigger ones that we’ve not seen since the 80s like Russia/Ukraine and with all probability, China/Taiwan by 2028 at the latest.
they’re banking on there being less people to feed, house, and otherwise provide for. so they can fall back to a kind of corpo-feudalism

- Comment on GOG reportedly suffering from staff turnover and poor management: “Current business model is likely running out of steam” 2 months ago:
GOG was good for acquiring and re-releasing OLD GAMES. somewhere along the way they decided they wanted to compete with the big platforms and be “We’re just like them but without DRM”
I haven’t used GOG for years, they allowed me to relive a few of my old adolescence favorites, but stopped being useful to me a long time ago :/
