- Comment on Why is Kamala Harris being held at such a higher standard than Trump this election? 2 months ago:
honestly aside from explicitly right wing outlets, I don’t see any particular bias against harris. most outlets will almost alway criticize trump on everything while most of the time they praise harris and sometimes they criticise her on her more progression policies (because most of the media tilts fiscal conservative). it’s rather more of a perceptions of the audience thing. trump has done so many outlandish shit that now most of his bullshit gets filtered out as noise.
also i don’t wanna be mean but the question “Why does it feel standards are much higher for Harris than Trump?” sounds like it’s coming from an agitated"vote blue no matter who" democrat who is baffled about why would people not vote for the obviously better candidate.
there are a lot of reasons as you said “this race is STILL either 50/50 or tilt Trump”. maybe it’s because she’s black or female and there are a lot of sexist and misogynists out there, maybe it’s because of the electoral college, maybe it’s because of the hold the MAGA cult has over its members, or maybe it’s because harris is refusing to stop arming and helping a genocide and that is turning people off.
the Harris campaign right now can only change one of these factors. even if you plan on voting, lie on the polls and organise and protest against the genocide because if enough people do this to force the hand of the Harris campaign then it wouldn’t be a close race at all.

jagex is a very shitty company and shitty company don’t want money, they want all the money. they will kill this game eventually. I hate jagex, from jagex accounts which is just a blatant attempt to phase out 3rd party tools and lock people to their ecosystem (which also fucked me over because the new account system blocks my entire country) to their customer service which is horrendous.
now they’re raising prices to appear more profitable probably to trick another prospective buyer and get tossed around again.

if this meme didn’t mention tiktok i would guess it was from 2017. who even talks about elsagate anymore?
also anecdotal but personally i would say the visibility of small channels have gone way up these past few years. the amount of videos with very low view counts i see in my feed has gone from basically non existent to half of my recommendations.
- Comment on Roblox gets banned indefinitely in Turkey over “child exploitation” 3 months ago:
most people are focusing on the free labour roblox is extracting from kids but from the article:
Further claims stated, according to Turkish media, that Roblox hosted virtual parties promoting pedophilia and that “robux,” the platform’s virtual currency, was being distributed by bot accounts to encourage children’s involvement in these activities, and excess presence of gambling sites and their predatory tactics.
so it looks like roblox was banned because of bad moderation in regards to gambling and sexual predators, both of which are massive issues of the platform. overall i think this is a good move which hopefully will push roblox to do better.

- Comment on Any full loot/pvp base building mmos out there? 5 months ago:
i haven’t played it that much since my ping was atrocious, but i would say no. IIRC beside membership and cosmetics that you can buy with gold, i think you can covert it into silver which you can use to progress faster and even buy gear but you won’t gain an unfair advantage or get something that’s exclusive to the MTX shop.
you should read what experienced players have written if you want a more detailed explanation, im just sort of vaguely familiar with the game.

Albion online seems like a good fit for you, although based on your location your ping will massively vary since they only have a few centralised servers.
- Comment on What games do you recommend to play with a girlfriend 8 months ago:
sorry i don’t know enough about multiplayer or local multiplayer games although if you’re looking for a Co-op game i would recommend It Takes Two. it’s simple but has its own charm. beware it’s a third person game and has some shooting sections in it but it’s beginner friendly enough.
i think city builders and management/tycoon games would be great for these situations cause if you like them there’s no upper limit on playtime. cities skyline and RollerCoaster Tycoon are both great. if you’re looking for something like factorio satisfactory could also work.
of course adventure games or puzzle games are also a great fit since most of them tend to have simple controls but great story and humor and hard puzzles that can keep you busy while solving them is satisfying. i’ve made a post recently on this community asking for people’s recommendations so definitely check that out.
there’s also this lovely little game called Townscaper. it’s really simple you just add or remove blocks on a non-rectangular grid on a sea and the game tries to generate a pleasant looking town. it might sound lackluster on paper but it’s fun and you can get some hours out of it developing your town and discovering the town style rules (there is also some hidden structures that can pop up discovering those is also fun).

thanks for your suggestions the frog detective series sounds like the exact kind of game i would like. and as for the manhunter i have to admit i haven’t played them. why are they overlooked though? it doesn’t seem that different from other games of that time.
- Comment on What adventure games do you recommend? 8 months ago:
absolutely i’ve played a shit ton of their games when i was a kid. i was surprised to see their games are not that famous since where i live most young people have played at least Machinarium.

although I’ve searched for specifically FOSS games in the past it’s not really a niche, i would still pick out games in genres i liked.
still as you have said there’s a real lack of “good” FOSS games, because most people make games with engines that do not facilitate open sourcing your game, artists unfortunately think copyright is good and you can’t open source your game without also giving away your art or making your game free, or the most common case is that devs don’t know/care about FOSS.
i think FOSS games are good however i also think games need to be very opinionated pieces of software, so do not delegate your design to other or “also open sourcing your design”. the dev should ultimately be in control.
one thing I’ve seen even non FOSS games do is to use their repo as a public bug tracker, so in addition to that accepting contributions for bugfixes could also work. although i think it goes against the spirit of FOSS software you could also separate your artwork from your source code.
- Comment on Anon is struck by the state of the education system 9 months ago:
my experience with kids comes from the 10 or 12 years as a kid that i remember, one of my parents being a teacher and hearing about what happened in their school, and 1 year of helping teaching middle schoolers about computers on windows 7 boxes half of which had parts taken from by the kids (don’t ask me how i got to that point). should preface this by saying that all of these were in poor urban schools without councilors or other similar kinds of staff in a third world country.
i got nothing against kids. they are indeed very sweet and innocent and i don’t hate them. i got bullied when i was a kid because i couldn’t socialize with anyone, all of it seemed very arbitrary and strange. it was the same routine in and out, someone sees me crying and they ask what happened, i tell them the kids name and we both get called to the office, and i would see the moment the kid gets accused of anything the tears start running down their face and they start lying through their teeth. at the end the teacher would decide either it was a close call or can’t do nothing about the kid and let us go.
i’ve seen both how assholish kids can get (worst was definitely the time the drug dealer kid decided to have a go, in which he subsequently broke my nose and almost broke my leg), and how teachers fail to do anything about it. i’ve seen my fair share of abusive and sadistic teachers which would hit us if we didn’t do our homework even though it was illegal for at least a few years by this point, but looking back i clearly see that some people at least cared and tried to help me, but couldn’t do anything about it especially in that environment. and things have improved since then. spending time with teachers in break rooms, it’s obvious how much most of them care these days. they’re almost always discussing the kids relationships, how well they are doing, if any of them is getting bullied ect. some of the assholes are still there, no doubt about it.
so to answer your question, probably the bias that has formed in me being a victim of bullying, or poverty, or a mix of them both. in my folly i assumed 1. teachers at richer countries are better and 2. yet at the same time kids are exactly how they are here. the amount of downvotes my comment got tells me otherwise. i just wanted to defend teachers that always getting thrown under the bus for bullying when in fact it’s much more of a complex and systematic issue.

i was saying hypothetically, runelite isn’t banned. jagex nuked hd clients and plugins 2 years ago for their own hd but reversed it due to backlash. they took their time on hd for sure.

nothing that jagex does can entice me to use their client aside from banning runelite. don’t know why the went through all the trouble of just recreating runelite but worse and without all the plugin support

i’m gonna blatantly disregard your “but where the consequences actually matter” and recommend most of telltale’s games (The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us are the better ones).
besides them and the suggestion of others i would also recommend Tyranny. great CRPG made by Obsidian.
- Comment on Valve issues DMCA takedown for "Team Fortress: Source 2" 10 months ago:
if there’s one rule to modding valve games, it’s “don’t touch GabeN’s hat and skin sales”. TF2 despite being a real mess and valve’s server being practically unplayable, still brings in millions of dollars of gambling money, and now that CS2 keys are not tradable TF2 keys are in demand for laundering money. of course they are gonna take down a direct remake of their live service game minus all the bots and shitty cosmetics.
