Who talked about image generation? That one is pretty much useless, for anything that needs to be generated on the fly like that, a stick figure would do.
Devouring text like that, has been instrumental in learning for my students, especially for the ones who have English as a Second Language(ESL), so its usability in teaching would be interesting to discuss.
Do I think general open LLMs are the future? Fuck no. Do I think they are useless and unjustifiable? Neither. I think, at their current state, they are a brilliant beta test on the dangers and virtues of large language models and how they interact with the human psyche, and how they can help bridge the gap in understanding, and how they can help minorities, especially immigrants and other oppressed groups(Hence why I advocated for providing a class on how to use it appropriately for my ESL students) bridge gaps in understanding, help them realize their potential, and have a better future.
However, we need to solve or at least reduce the grip Capitalism has on that technology. As long as it is fueled by Capitalism, enshitification, dark patterns and many other evils will strip it of its virtues, and sell them for parts.

A based point of view, Bravo, my dear. Do you know how rare that is? People in here love to think about themselves as free thinkers, when a lot of them are in reality, reactionary at best.
Same for citing renting, landlords and Ai. They are disgustingly evil when used for profit, but they also have their uses. In another comment I’m sure will be downvoted to hell, if not outright buried, I mention the uses of GenAI for translation, text simplification, summarization and studying, yet people got the whole “AI=BAD” as a thought-terminating cliche.
- Comment on Lemmy be like 2 weeks ago:
GenAI is a great tool for devouring text and making practice questions, study guides and summarize, it has been used as a marvelous tool for education and research. Hell, if set properly, you can get it to give you the references and markers on your original data for where to find the answers to the questions on the study guide it made you.
It is also really good for translation and simplification of complex text. It has its uses.
But the oversimplification and massive broad specs LLMs have taken, plus lack of proper training for the users, are part of the problem Capitalism is capitalizing on. They don’t care for the consumer’s best interest, they just care for a few extra pennies, even if those are coated in the blood of the innocent. But a lot of people just foam at the mouth when they hear “Ai”.

So weird, Right? I get the same with Ketchup, for some reason, it just tastes off-putting and disgusting to me, like vinegar and sugar, with a bit weird chemical aftertaste and maybe a hit of tomato, lol.
I see people coating their hot dogs and fries with that and just think “Ew, but to each, their own”

Honestly, thst is very subjective. I love tamarind and pepper candy, vanilla ice cream with spicy chips, and honey plus roasted chillies marinade for pork.
And I say this as someone who is not into spicy food, there are a few combinations out there, where the sweet and spicy mix actually work great for a snack.

Is that why most AI company logos look like anuses? To look like old donny’s shitty facehole?

Absolutely based take, I applaud you and your nuance, darling.

Kinda funny how a lot of people downvote and denounce AI religiously for some things and not for others.
For me, this pic is just good fun.

But seriously, it is far easier being on the outside, pointing and casting blame, but for us old enough to remember all the people who were blackballed, run out of the business, and even murdered for exposing sexual abuse, it is hard to tell.
And on top of that, there are cases where a third party has exposed the abuse, to which both the victim and perpetrator deny the accusations, and it just ends up terribly for the whistleblower.
Yet, back to the point, we’re on
redditlemmy, where nuance goes to die. - Comment on The emotional support dunkies 3 months ago:
Allegedly, he was aware of Harvey Weinstein’s abuse, at least according to Rose McGowan. And since a lot of people are reactionary as fuck, since she accused him of being aware, then they act and behave as if he was undoubtedly aware and complicit in it.

Shrink wrap was the most accurate at the time, especially accounting for reptiles, which were the original inspiration for said technique.
And since most soft tissue doesn’t fossilize, they were doing the best they could with the tools they had.
And while they were often wrong, I would like to see you try to guess what the animals looked like, based on skull alone, and compare your accuracy against the people you’re calling lazy, probably from the comfort of your own toilet.

Sure, it feels kinda nice but then gestures broadly at everything, that momentary “nice” feeling isn’t going to get me out of debt, isn’t a guarantee that I won’t be fired and replaced the moment I am too old or sick to work, isn’t going to get me out of my current “On a diet for financial reasons” financial situation.
It is like trying to cure depression with a breath mint. Plus, the usual “Company reports growth and record profits but certainly cannot afford to give raises to you, bottom feeders, keep making profits for us who sit at the top and be thankful you even get a chance to do so”, sure sucks all the joy out of everything.

Yeah, I am done engaging with you, you are either trolling for a reaction, or literally unable to understand what I am saying, so cheers.
If that sounds like “a whole lot of butthurt” to you, I am certainly glad I don’t need to engage with you.

Nobody is banning amateurs or being butthurt when confronted with alternative theories that make sense in any way, shape or form. His so called theories make zero sense, have no evidence and investing all that time and effort debunking for free, when he is actively being paid to produce that bullshit, is something that most people don’t have the time or resources to do.
And such disinformation butchers critical thinking, but it is great to produce revenue for Netflix and himself, so since he is financially motivated not to change course or even acknowledge his bullshit views, then he can not be considered as a valid source of theories.

That one, was the BBC being contrarian and stupid, or trying to drum up Stonehenge as an attractive mystery, it has been common knowledge among archeology enthusiasts that Stonehenge is an impressive monument, but that it is nothing that we can’t replicate with manpower, a bit of a budget and basic tech available since we have rope.

It is one of the many arguments that helped Nazism take root. "We were once the great Aryans, but with so many immigrant subhumans and control by the lesser races, we will drown, we need to be rid of them to Make America Great Again, I mean, Rebuild Mother Russia, I mean, bring forth the Third Reich.

“According to Hancock, the ancient pyramid Gunung Padang in Indonesia and the ruins of Nan Madol in Micronesia were both built by an “advanced civilization” more than 20,000 years ago during the last ice age. However, present-day Pohnpeians say their oral histories passed down through generations describe the city of Nan Madol as being built by their ancestors beginning around 1,000 years ago – a timeline supported by historians and archaeologists.
Professor Patrick Nunn, who specializes in researching Pacific geography and archaeology at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that Hancock’s theories about who built Nan Madol strip Indigenous peoples of their rich histories and can be traced to “racist philosophies” and “white supremacist” ideologies of the 19th century.”

I had the opposite experience, pansexual but homoromantic, neraly married a woman I thought I loved, sex was amazing and I thought what I felt was love through the eyes of an autistic person, but after she broke up with me and I finally had my first boyfriend, everything clicked.
