You can spice them up with alternating leg raises or do a superman or bird dog. There are also loads of other exercises that work. The best exercise isn’t the most effective one, it’s the one you actually do consistently

Cooking laundry sounds like a fun way to say dishwashing.
- Comment on This is the point I have reached 1 day ago:
I stopped going to the dentist 7 years ago because I moved to an area with a shortage. I used to have one or two cavities filled each yearly appointment, but I haven’t had any serious issues or pain since I stopped going. I’m a bit worried about future serious issues but I saved so much money, pain and discomfort in the meantime.
- Comment on Some excuses are for you but not for them 4 days ago:
Yeah, you shouldn’t really need any other excuse then “sorry, not in the mood right now”. It’s also the weirdest excuse because sex often helps with a headache because it eases pain and tension (when done right).
- Comment on learning to play an instrument on your own, but how/what? 6 days ago:
Hmm yes. For such stuff a keyboard is the easiest in terms of learning the relation between chords. You also get a visual representation of chords, octaves and higher/lower notes while you listen/play.
For the very basics, I saw duolingo does a music course now. It’s very basic but it teaches notes and you get listening exercises to differentiate higher/lower notes. It’s pretty crappy for actually learning a lot but it might be a stepping stone.
- Comment on learning to play an instrument on your own, but how/what? 1 week ago:
Any musical instrument I know needs a relatively active body position and you cannot learn playing music by reading a book. Let’s start by why you want to learn to play music, is it only for bragging rights? do you want to play with others at some point? Do you actually enjoy listening to/playing the music with a certain instrument? Perhaps start by listening to some performances on different instruments and see what you like. I think the main driver in learning an instrument is that you actually enjoy the sounds you can produce with it. Then second, find some beginner sheet music, preferably with associated tips and tricks. The impsl database is amazing for free resources, but an actual guidebook from the library or music store might be better for beginners. And finally, you learn to play by just doing it a little every day. Find out how you can produce the most beautiful sounds, record yourself to spot errors and use a metronome to make sure you have rhythms and tempo right. There are many youtube videos to watch as well. In the end, getting lessons is way easier than self-teaching, but if that is not available to you this might work. Piano and guitar are usually seen as easier to selfteach than violin-type or flute-type instruments as the technique for beginners is more straightforward, but you run the risk of teaching yourself bad technique that is hard to unlearn at a later stage in all instruments.
- Comment on My father the tween literary critic 1 week ago:
I remember reading a book when I was around 10 that was about an apocalypse and only two teenagers survived it. I think they were brother and sister but unsure. At some point they were discussing that they should have children and that they would also need to have children with their children to ensure survival of the human race. It was really weird and my parents wouldn’t have let me read it if they knew about that. They also had it moved from the kids section of the library.
- Comment on What's going on with Olympic skiers and penises? 2 weeks ago:
This is what I heard: For the ski jump the size of your suit is very important for airtime. There are regulations that the suits surface can only be 4 inches more than your skin surface. They are investigating if male ski jumpers have been injecting their penis to get a bigger bulge, so their suit is allowed to have slightly more surface area.

The quality if the food you eat is such a big determiner for quality of life though… I would rather spent a few hours every weekend mealprepping and living an extra ten years of healthy active life. Plus, if you can save 600 dollars on food you might be able to just work less.

Because tastes differ. You can get tired of always having sugary drinks and af beers often have a more complex and interesting taste than sodas.
- Comment on What are super-computers used for ? 4 weeks ago:
I analyze the human genome. If I want to compute something complex on 1000 genomes that all have 90 Gb of data it might take two days per genome on 16 cores. And I don’t have 2000 days to finish my research.
- Comment on Do you touch the light switch entering a room if it's already on? 4 weeks ago:
My parents have a bathroom with an (opaque) window, so during the day you don’t need to turn the light on. Which is how I discovered I only turn lights on when I need it, but I always turn the bathroom light back off going out… and then off again because it was never on.
- Comment on Teach me 4 weeks ago:
The phrase “you can’t outrun a bad diet” exists for a reason. If you are not already doing lots of sports your body simply cannot handle the 1-2 hours if intense activity every day to burn off that caramel latte and bag of chips. Then, when you do get to the level where you can do lots of sports, you will notice a bad diet impacts your progress and recovery and you are stuck eating a lot, but mostly healthy food.

I vaguely remember seeing ads on cliff faces etc in movies 15 years ago on television, but I think they stopped using them very quickly. Is this just a comeback of a failed test?

We don’t have a dryer and the lines only hold one load of laundry. So every time I know I’ve done all I can do for 2 whole days. The bliss is enormous. Sucks if I accidentally skip a few days though as it is almost impossible to catch up on a backlog.

- Comment on Is it Possible that a Typical Quantity of Sneezes is Inherited/Genetic? 2 months ago:
On QI (bbc quiz show) they once said the sound you make when you sneeze is cultural/learned, so I wouldn’t be surprised the number of sneezes is also somehow cultural.

I think I heard someone on a podcast with seizures triggered by lights and she said wearing sunglasses and in extreme cases closing one eye helped reduce the effects on her a lot.

Those warnings are called auras, and you can have visual or auditory auras warning you of a seizure.

- Comment on What do they do with aborted fetuses? 3 months ago:
i imagine cremating fetusses is one of the lesser emotionally traumatizing things hospital workers have to deal with every day.
Also, if the fetus is big enough to be (near) viable and the abortion happens for medical reasons or in case of stillbirths, I hope/expect parents are given the option for a proper burial.
- Comment on What's the best way to ease getting back in shape after years of little to no exercise? 3 months ago:
I had this during covid and free home workouts videos helped me out a lot. Started with just a yogamat (or towel) doing easy beginner friendly workouts of only 15-30 minutes. No need to go out, noone sees you and there are apartment/small space/downstairs neighbour friendly options. I used the fitnessblender workouts and the sense of accomplishment at the “workout complete” screen is magical.
