Story time:
A bit less than a decade ago I had a friend who had a cat, a tiny void who was pretty skittish and not fond of strangers. I grew up with cats and have always had a “green thumb” like for gardening but for cats. When I started hanging at his and his GFs place at least once a week me and the cat became comfortable with each other, but I also saw that they had no idea how to actually care for a cat.
They bought the cheapest food, even though they definitely weren’t strapped for cash, almost never played with her, didn’t know how to read cat body language etc.
I tried teaching them, giving them (well her, the cat) toys but they just ended up collecting dust in a drawer, I told them what cat foods I knew were good and to test different kinds to see which she both likes and were good for her health but they never changed.
When I moved apartment to one a lot closer to where they were living they asked me to pet sit whenever they went abroad and I happily obliged. The first day the first time wasn’t easy for her, she had never been outside their apartment since they got her, but the very next day I was woken up by her climbing onto of my chest and dragging her cheeks all over my face and licking me almost like I was catnip, we were best friends after that and I loved having her with me and seeing this new comfortable and happy side of her. I played with her daily, had nice (as in good for her, not just more expensive) food, treats every now and then etc. Then after 10 days they came back and as soon as I opened the door and she noticed it was them she darted under my bed and pressed herself up against the back wall… It fucking broke my heart, it’s not like I could say “hey, I don’t think you guys are good pet parents, so I’ll take her and give her a better life”. And that first time I wasn’t completely sure if it was specifically them she reacted like that to but after pet sitting her a couple of more times that was definitely the case, if other people came over she wa shy but not even close to what she did whenever they came to get her. I tried talking to them about caring for cats, or just being a fucking human being and understanding animals are “people”, living beings with feelings, but I think they didn’t have it in them to understand that. We stopped being friends over other differences, and then I learned she had gotten sick and passed away. I mourned her more than I think they ever did, I’m of course not gonna say it wasn’t a hard thing for them at all but as far as I’m aware they never grieved and just got another cat right after. I still miss her and think about her every now and then, she deserved better. - Comment on Shout out to the NYE shift at all the Emergency Departments around the world. 1 week ago:

I gotta say this isn’t my experience at all. It’s any gender being any kind of welcoming to new people. That includes me in all positions (being the “haven’t known him for long enough” and “we found him along the way”, and also being the one who does both of those things). If anything my experience has been that women have been more welcoming to new people, of course within reason and depending on the situation. But it’s not at all heavily towards one side or the other, people are people and situational logic plays a larger part than anything else.

This is crazy, I just woke up and I remembered I drunkenly installed a game yesterday but couldn’t for the life of me remember what the game was. I opened my lemmy app and see this close to the top and remembered it was dying light: the beast. I finished the second one a couple of months ago and wanted to take a small break before diving into the new one, while also letting some more patches be released.
I’m currently playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 too but I’m unsure if it’s for me. I see why it’s so loved but I’m not at all good with tight timing stuff and I feel the exploration is a bit lackluster.

How did you fail at that? You had to get two words correct but managed to not do it, shame on you.

Congratulations, I think you might have a truly original experience. Never seen a kid that doesn’t like onions in any way, so they don’t need to be forced to eat them. And why would you force that in the first place? They aren’t the kind of vegetable that you need to eat, they’re there for flavor. I’m certain there’s some deeper issue here, you might want to figure that out.

I and others have noticed and asked the same, never seen a good answer. I highly doubt it’s all OC from him, his tweets posted here gets to the top so often and they’re so verried that it just looks like he takes other popular tweets or whatever and writes his own versions (I know for a fact that’s the case for some). It’s very odd, almost feels like some bot fueled posting of stuff with his name attached.

Pro: look a bit like the fictional creatures you already use.
Cons: Can’t fly, doesn’t have glowing noses.

It definitely blows i inhibitions and also makes do you dumb stuff. But nothing close to this level. I’ve done 8-balls in one night and have done dumb stuff I wouldn’t have done without it, same as doing dumb stuff on alcohol and even weed. But this is so far removed from that, he’d have to have absolutely no idea about the dangers and I really think there must have been someone else who persuaded him in bad faith.

It took way to long to find something decent about this, so many shit articles and videos. I could probably find something better with more time but I gotta sleep, this is the best I could do and it’s good enough IMO.

I’ve had this weird thing lately where something keeps being mentioned or random things remind you of something and it’s been boxxy. It started with me watching black sails for the first time some weeks ago and thinking one of the characters looks familiar, which I then realised was boxxy (not that she is boxxy, but that’s who she reminds me of) then it just went as it always does; mentions of boxxy in the most random places, that actress appearing in stuff I’m watching and me thinking “that looks so much like boxxy” before realising it’s the same actress (who isn’t boxxy). It’s always a fun journey when this happens, and it’s the most random thing that it’s about too.
And now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t think I’ve ever watched an actual boxxy video, not back then or ever since. Just mentions, images and gifs on forums etc.

I’m in an almost constant state of knowing and feeling this. The vast majority of people would call my life poor and bad, but I’m incredibly grateful and in awe of the things I have and get to experience. It’s not easy though, because almost everyone around me has more and extremely few don’t feel like spoiled brats that take everything for granted and just want more and more no matter who it hurts and the impact it has on our world.
