“we” in this case could be the American government in general and the supreme court specifically. The fact that such an important right was “granted” by a decision of nine random schmucks and can be taken away by another decision (rather than being a law) is not a great look for that government.
But you’re right that it was not the best phrasing. Activism is still extremely important esp on more local levels.

Dying earth isn’t a genre it’s a specific set of books by jack Vance that popularized this trope and was also a major inspiration for DnD

Gee I wonder how some of the greedier/scummier telehealth hrt providers (not naming any names but it’s all on Google) would react if someone straight up said “I’m cis but want to be more attractive to gay/bi dudes gimme the pills”. I’d give 70/30 they’d eventually agree.
p.s. personally I think hrt should be maximally cheap and sold over the counter. One of the few things I like about russia

Yeah the real reason they’re doing this cultural stuff is that they need a distraction from the fact that their material/economic politics are becoming more and more unpopular every year. So the anti woke/anti immigration frenzy must continue

This new Yorker article goes into some more detail. Apparently there was some underlying conflict between rival Chinese academics over succession of university admin postings in Beijing.
According to the article it was one Chinese dude trying to hog credit and Perelman basically went “oh i’m not brave enough for politics” and bailed. If he accepted his choice was basically becoming a conformist or getting involved by trying to improve things. He chose not to choose.
Most problems require the insights of several mathematicians in order to be solved, and the profession has evolved a standard for crediting individual contributions that is as stringent as the rules governing math itself. As Perelman put it, “If everyone is honest, it is natural to share ideas.” Many mathematicians view Yau’s conduct over the Poincaré as a violation of this basic ethic, and worry about the damage it has caused the profession. “Politics, power, and control have no legitimate role in our community, and they threaten the integrity of our field,” Phillip Griffiths said.

this is an ancient and noble practice known as shitposting, no need to call it something else :)

imo redditors and 4channers think too highly of themselves if they believe they have real influence on elections. Most people aren’t online, and politics are much more readily explained by material causes such as the Dems fcking up the post 2008 economic recovery and going for austerity instead of investment. The biggest proximate cause (non-material/economic) cause is just that hilldawg ran a bad campaign that didn’t focus enough on swing states (but she won the popular vote, congratulations).

They give you two types of machines for free. One is x86 (amd) based with a 2ghz cpu and 1gb ram. The beefier machine (the one with 24gb ram) is arm based.

It’s kinda fucked up that they don’t teach students this first thing as part of basic media literacy.
Same goes for teaching version control such as git to anyone writing or collaborating on complex text (not necessarily even code).
- Comment on Use Zotero 2 months ago:
If anyone is choosing between them I’d advise going with Zotero because it’s an open source project. No chance of it shutting down or changing the terms of service.

Your original comment was saying that the term is inherently derogatory and offensive. I’m trying to explain that in this case I don’t accept the framework of a derogatory terms but rather derogatory usages. That’s like, my opinion. As a self identified tranny, who still identifies as such in a non porn context. As do lots of my friends on twitter.
Feel like we’ve already been over all this back when some people online decided “queer” is always a slur and started aggressively trying to police people from using it…

there’s other trans communities and other social norms online than r/mtf on reddit. People should be allowed to call themselves what they like imo, and you should probably try to make sure of the user’s actual stance before policing their language.

It’s weird, it’s like a four way conflict between trans women, cis crossdressers, well meaning cis allies speaking over the former, and transphobes.
