  Modern ones make electric motor noises. Probably not too uncanny when steam engines where more popular.

  This must have been an expensive art display though. Steam engines are expensive. I guess I might be wrong though. I haven checks.

    The electric ones are so quiet they have them play the Tesla “wobwobwob” noise for blind people.

      Steam engines are complicated fiddly machinery that contains a pressure vessel. Explosions happened and were fatal.

      Also sooty terrible fire is terrible.

  Arthur Ganson is a kinetic sculpture artist who I at first thought made this.

  My first exposure to one of his machines was this oil pump that rocked back and forth ejaculating all over itself. I was going to link it but it looks like he took it apart to make a less horny version

    You’ve linked “machine with oil”, the ejaculating one is “machine with grease”. I’m on my phone right now so I can’t look it up for you, but you should be able to find it on youtube under that name.

    I should mention the less horny version came first.
