I think cats have it better; dogs are expected to do a bit of work, even if it’s just companionship.
I know multiple people who refer to their cats as “asshole” but still provide everything for it.

That’s why I find it funny when people are asked what animal they wanted to be and some answer with some apex predator in the jungle or the sea. I always answer with house cat. You are fed and pampered with, and you don’t even have to show affection or gratitude back. You can be an asshole and they’ll find you adorable.
