Germany is on the “just one more lane” side.

    source
    • schnokobaer@feddit.org ⁨1⁩ ⁨day⁩ ago

And firmly so. I think we do have lots of very smart science people analyzing traffic and coming up with solutions, as implied by the meme. It’s just that if (!) politicians read their conclusions they just raise an eyebrow and order the one more lane.

      Is it for the auto-bahn?

Except it’s wishful thinking because nobody wants to actually pay for any kind of infrastructure.

China also has 25-lane highways tho.

Was gonna say, isn’t this notorious photo from China as well?

I think this is a staging area for customs. You can see where it turns back to a normal road at the top of the image.

Singapore’s solution is similar to the Chinese one. There’s a limited number of car permits, and you can’t buy or import a car unless you have one. They change hands for more than the price of a car. One side effect, though, is that having a car in itself has become a status symbol.

      Singapore’s leadership is so based

Except their criminal system involves punishments like caning and executions, the latter applying to drug mules. It’s barbaric.

What is the German solution here supposed to be symbolising?

It’s from a YouTube video (linked by the other reply) which discusses the mathematics of traffic flow and the optimal way to program AI drivers to reduce congestion.

I think the expensive licence plates are only for ICE cars and not for EVs? It’s to combat pollution. Many Chinese cities also have good public transit

    source
    • NateNate60@lemmy.world ⁨2⁩ ⁨days⁩ ago

Yes, electric cars are exempt from the registration games. But with China’s huge population, even if 80% of the city takes public transportation, that 20% who choose to drive still have enough cars to jam up the roads so they come up with these kinds of schemes to reduce traffic.

Is serpentza (the guy on the left of the third image) credible? I used to watch the guy but he seems to be radically anti-PRC, to an extent that I really felt like I’m watching some crude American propaganda.

I found the channel ADV China some time ago and as a Westerner it felt very approachable. Two guys riding bikes around China, explaining and exploring things. I didn’t get the anti-PRC vibe, but maybe I completely missed it - whoosh over my head.

Can you recommend any other series that might be worth watching?

If he’s anti-ccp I don’t see anything wrong with that.

I don’t trust anyone with black and white worldview, I understand that China has it’s severe problems and that everything that gets out of it is heavily curated by the party. In a way I’m even scared of the Chinese world hegemony that I believe may soon come.

That being said, his perception is always radically negative to an extent that he attempted to disgrace the Chinese people multiple times by painting them as extreme racists and xenophobes.

I’m interested in what China really is and I doubt he’s a good source of insight.
