Psychosis isn’t being a dickhead. It’s suffering from delusions and/or hallucinations. It can be really stressful to go through because the delusions are often paranoid ones, like that the government planted a chip inside your body and you need to dig it out with a knife. It’s serious business.

A vast, vast amount of work in modern economies just objectively does not need to be done for any good reason, but is performed to keep capitalism from collapsing in on itself.

And typically the less money someone makes the more vital they are for society to function.

But if I get a job the government will stop sending checks!
I hate them so much

Everyone 40s or younger where I work is so clearly sick of the shit. None of us are making as much as the older folks and they still go by the “good ole boy” system. I’m just grateful that we can control our own area, we take off whenever (provided we have the time), and our direct boss treats us well. Glad to see the kids these days understand this shit isn’t worth it anymore and are acting accordingly.

The feeling of being part of the group and contributing has been co-opted and perverted by capitalism.

I love contributing to society by working at the evil corp. We developed rock solid surveillance systems to keep everyone safe :)

Working at evil asshole inc is a blessing in disguise…fuck up a little here and a little there. Not enough for anyone to notice but enough that if everyone is fucking up the entire company can do the opposite of thrive while still giving you money. Investors don’t like that.
This is how we win over AI enshitification.

It really is hard to find a job where you can go home at the end of the day and feel like what you did that has benefitted the human race at all.

Why do we have to sell our soul just to survive?

Capitalism
BigBenis@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Because the economy is based on exploration and profit maxing, not the benefit of society.
Photonic@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Well it’s not that hard

Please do not become a teacher unless you really really enjoy it. It is a fucking hard job. You will be working way more hours in real life than on paper. You will need to play a thousand different roles for hundreds of kids. You will be emotionally destroyed day to day. You will need to be able to listen to kids as they explain why they are considering suicide or trying to figure out what to do since they got pregnant.
You will be asked to not only teach but plan, grade, do extracurriculars, stay after school for kids who cant get a quick ride home, etc.
So many people try to get into this job because its a way to genuinely feel good about your work. And it is. But you have to be a bit masochistic to do it and you have to really fucking love it.
I can’t imagine doing anything else, but the amount of burnout Ive seen in my career is unreal. People do not know what they are getting into.
So with that said, if you try it and arent happy after a few years, please dont stick it out. Its unfair to yourself and the kids you teach. Ive seen it too many times.

I mean it definitely is. Yes those jobs have openings now, but if too many people switch then suddenly there are no more openings.
Also both of those positions require specific education and certifications. It’s not always that easy to drop what you’re doing and entirely reinvent your career
jve@lemmy.world 4 weeks ago
Mm yes, he forgot to mention the silly extra requirements of food and shelter.

I would literally rather work with dozens of people in violent psychosis than work with one (1) developmentally normal modern-day child.
