this is like the 5th meme like this I’ve seen, I think I’m hitting a breaking point
also, this feels like boomer humor or something, it feels so weirdly out-of-touch and not self-aware (hey, like I’m being right now!)

Honestly, if the entire world could coordinate something as ridiculous and harmless as pranking a few astronauts, that would already be a pretty amazing sign. Like, imagine billions of people actually agreeing on something silly instead of arguing for once. World peace, but it starts with ape costumes and a shared sense of humor. I’d take that timeline.
Same
Afaik this originated when John Glenn made a return to space, aged 77, in 1998, e.g. (first forum post that I found)
Don’t let this man distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer’s table.
What if we got some people extensive plastic surgery to look just like the artemis 2 crew and act all surprised like how did we get a second crew they just came back two days ago
It would be funny if the ground crew met them with masks:
“Uh, guys, a funny thing happened while you were on the Dark Side of the Moon…”

Would be even creepier if everyone pretended like we never sent them 😏

Is this a reference to a movie?
