Wealthiest third-world country on the planet!
Kate Aronoff spent the week talking to UPS Teamsters from around the country about what it’s like to deliver hundreds of packages in a heatwave, in a country without workplace protections for heat

I knew our local UPS driver had a stoke because of the heat. The fact that it has been 3 years and they bought zero truck with air, nor done jack shit for workers. YET the union doesn’t strick? Why no way they should work in these conditions.

Valid point, but I felt like I was having a stroke halfway through reading this comment.

I live on a property with multiple families and we just use one delivery box by the main driveway.
Since this past week was in the 90s, I started leaving out a cooler with ice and bottled water/a few colors of gatorade and a couple snacks in a small basket next to it.
So far, no driver has taken anything, even with a “PLEASE TAKE ONE!” sign on top.
It’s too hot to work outside without all the water you can drink, electrolyte flavor packs, and bare minimum a giant-ass fan. And no, having no doors doesn’t count as having a fan.

My ex-wife, not much of a caring person, always left a frozen bottle in the mailbox. We had the perfect USPS driver back then. New dude (LOL, been on this route several years) is fine, and I like him, but I think he’s a bit autistic. Can’t seem to make eye contact so I don’t get up in his grill, just wave from my porch. :)

Compared to my USPS driver, who is driving a new Mercedes van with good A/C and altered routes over the summer months to shorten drivers’ time in heat.
Before anyone flips at “Mercedes”, their work vans are very cost competitive with Chevys.
It’s almost as if being in a union might be a good thing.

UPS drivers are in a union.
