New workplace takes absences seriously. Needed med cert for my single day off (needed if absence is Monday and Friday). Also had a âRTWâ chat with manager who asked why I was off, am I okay now, any ongoing issue, anything they can do to help, etc. Quite invasive and definitely serves to dissuade me from future sick leave where itâs not absolutely needed - which I suppose is why they do it.

That grinds my gears

I donât think theyâre meant to ask why. Do they have the right to do that? :/

I googled it afterwards. Looks like they can ask, but canât ask for any reasons on the med cert. You can refuse to give them any info I guess but they might not receive that warmly, even if youâre allowed to. My last employer wouldnât have asked any of this so itâs new to me

What happens if youâre a carer and not the sick one? Do you take your kid to get the medical cert?
Relevant here, as I took the day yesterday looking after a sick kid. Getting to a doctor would have been a challenge as he was in no shape to ride and my wife had the car.Eagle@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
I get a carers cert from the doctor. Usually telehealth. Or stat dec it.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Good question. Iâm not sure if Telehealth scripts work for carerâs leave - itâs what I used yesterday and it was fine, no mention of it being a lame type of cert or insufficient in any wayâŚ

Do you have a workplace agreement or something in place that details exactly what you need to do and when if you need a sick day or carerâs leave?
While this isnât quite the same my workplace is majority female. I once told a story that when a manager here was being quite full on with asking why someone was away they got a detailed recount of the menstrual cycle and their period.
That manager stopped asking people why they were off sick.

Itâs even more fun trying to communicate the full breadth of menopause to a 30 something male manager.
Eagle@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
In our latest EBA they asked for menopause leave, government said no đ.

Itâs shameful how 40% of sick days are on Mondays and Fridays.
Pilk@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
This doesnât seem remarkable as stated given 2á5=40%
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
I think thatâs the joke đ¤Ł
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Thatâs funny 𤣠I know our EBA did specify Mondays and Fridays were mandatory med cert so thatâs no issue. Wasnât expecting a 15m chat with manager asking about it though
