Hey I’ll have you know that in Australia an ambulance can cost >$1000 without insurance!
The problem is so serious that they run seminars in schools telling students to not hesitate calling for ambulances, because human lives are worth more than $1000.

Fair enough. I’m pretty sure it costs something where I live, but everything else would be free.
Psythik@lemmy.world 3 months ago
You’re also not legally required to pay medical bills in the states.
BreadOven@lemmy.world 3 months ago
I’m not from there, but I guess you’d have to give fake information?
Psythik@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Nope you have to give your real info. But the worst they can do is send debt collectors after you, which you can easily ignore.
Psythik@lemmy.world 3 months ago
You can just ignore hospital bills, and they can’t refuse treatment if you don’t pay.
So don’t worry about it; throw the bills in the trash, block the debt collectors’ numbers, and carry on with your life. I have been doing this for over 30 years now.

Only 75k since he didn’t have to take an ambulance

Long-term, I honestly don’t know whether this is the cheaper option. DUIs make insurance pricy.
