I guess I use a hybrid version. It’s as you go for the first part of the meal, then towards the end I’ll start focussing on making sure that everything is divided up into portions to make sure there is a bit of everything to go into each bite. I’m the opposite of the people who want all their food segregated and eaten separately, I want all meal components to have equal representation throughout the meal.

Something has come up on the Guys podcast again that I still can’t believe is a thing:
Do you use the Cut Up method or Chop And Eat As You Go when eating food?
Apparently this causes a bit of culture shock amongst Americans, who like to cut all their food up at once then just eat it with a fork. Whereas Chop And Eat As You Go (as described by the OP they were reading from) is some weird European way of eating.

as you go
I am a grown ass adult, not some child
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 2 days ago
As you go. Food would cool down more quickly if all cut at first.

This was a point raised as well, especially for something like steak. You want it hot and to hold as much juice as possible
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 days ago
I actually do cut up my steak, in my head it was to keep it from overcooking in its own heat, even after the resting period.

People actually do that? So you can eat like a toddler? Wtf? I do that for my dog because he sometimes forgets to chew.

That was the joke the other host that’s Canadian made. He said “I never do that, oh wait, yes I do, when I’m cutting up food for my child.” They had a guest on this week who said she cuts all her food up at once as well.

You know those fucking weirdos who have to have a little bit everything in each mouthful?
Thats me.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 days ago
I get that and I’m a bit like that myself. It was all made to go together so it might as well be enjoyed that way
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Yeah, but do you cut a bit each time or get it all cut up and ready?
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Cut a bit each time
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone 2 days ago
I assume you’re talking mainly about steak. I didn’t know it was a thing until the last 3-5 years I started noticing steaks on the various food subreddits that were all cut up before serving.
It makes sense if it’s a big sub-primal cut that is shared amongst the table but other than that I would cut as I go.

By the sound of it, it’s everything. Your average American might sit down to a parma and chips and cut it all up into little strips first, then discard the knife and just eat with the fork

Savages.

parma and chips
Yanks do parma w/ spaghetti… for some odd reason.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 days ago
Could that be a Jollibee thing, or one of the other Filipino restaurants? I heard Filipinos like to do spaghetti with everything

Few meals I make require cut as you go. For those that do, if I’m eating with somebody I do so. I’m alone and faffing about on my phone the chop it all up heathanism comes into play.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 days ago
I get it. Those moments where you’re like, “Ugh, I wanna be on my phone but I’ve gotta Chop And Eat As I Go”
Taleya@aussie.zone 1 day ago
don’t look at me, I have to eat things in a specific autistic sequence based on mouthfeel and desirability.
