When I was a kid in the 70s, Grease was huge, glamorizing 1950s “oldies” music like it was from some long-ago era. That’s only 20 years. That’s like glamorizing music from 2006 today. The 90s are definitely “classic rock” now. Trippy.
The only part that makes your comparison absurd is the fact that there’s nothing special about 2006.

That was around the time everyone started using nokias where I grew up. I can find a distinct vibe for 2000s (2006 is 2000s)

there was a lot of stuff that was different back then. The stuff that was fun was also in its infancy.
Eh frosted tips were around for a good decade by then. Emo is hard to separate from alt. You didn’t name an example of the hip hop from that era so…
Do I have to be an expert in things I dislike? Emo was definitely different to generic alternative, the swoopy hairstyle and dominating MySpace being a factor. If you want the stuff I knew more about, metal core was also big back then and thankfully pewterer out, meanwhile tech death gathered more and more steam and had it’s moment in the sun in the 2010s

You’re right, the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s all had distinct styles. That started fading in the 90s, and unless you look closely, the nearly three decades since are all very similar.
I think we can rightly blame capitalism for homogenizing our culture, and spreading it around the world. And, even if we can’t, I still will, and also fuck Mark Zuckerberg just because I haven’t said it yet today.
It’s the death of channels like MTV and the emergence of the internet that specific subcultures are not defining the decades anymore. Subcultures still exist they just aren’t shown on mass media anymore since people live in their own bubble on the internet.
And if you think about it the reason why certain styles defined the decades of post war 20th century was capitalism. Certain sub cultures reached mainstream status because marketeers pushed it to the masses to make money.

The 90s had a very distinct style just like the other decades you mentioned - grunge. Then going into 2000s it was crap pink

No smartphones, or at least they weren’t common. (I was a weirdo who carried a PDA everywhere)
Which probably explains why vintage turn of the century tech is becoming popular.
