I reckon we can drop the “allegedly” now since he admitted to it in court

Did he literally say he did it or did he plead guilty? Because those are not the same thing.

He literally said the words, “I shot him” during his plea.
Some are theorizing he’s admitting to the federal stalking charges so he can use New York’s double jeopardy laws to escape state charges for the same act.
Officially, he and his lawyers haven’t provided any reasoning for the decision.

New York State has especially strong double Jeopardy protections. Rather than simply protecting you from being prosecuted for the same crime, which in most states equates to the same criminal charge specifically, in New York State, you are protected from being charged more than once for the same “criminal act“, which could be any charge. So they can’t just charge you with something else and try to get you with that instead.
This means that, since Mangione plead guilty to federal stalking charges, New York State can no longer pursue a murder charge against Mangione. Or, at least, that’s what his lawyers are going to try to argue in New York State Court.

Maybe it was under duress

They probably threatened to kill the rest of his family if he didn’t. Poor maybe we’re meant to believe that this right after the trump sycophant AG swearing in is completely coincidental.

Nope. Just stalking.
