In Denmark all the gas stations started to panic during the last gas shortage because the signs only went up to 19.99, so they had to replace them with ones that could show 20 (DKK 20 = €2.67 = $3.07). We’re just about up there again.

Petrol station technology limitations were why UK partially switched to liters in the early 80s: most pumps could only show/calculate up to £1.99 per volume unit.

Interesting, in Finland they rolled up to 2€ no problem. Most signs are fairly new with LED displays
