He pushed a shadowban list into his code, complained that everyone didn’t like it (comments locked,) complained that no one liked his explanation (comments locked,) then ragequit because it’s all a big conspiracy against him.
It’s sad to see someone who seems to want to do the right thing this bad fall victim to some kind of savior complex where they completely fail to empathize with the people they want to save.
Leaving is the best course of action for him. I hope he has a chance to reflect on all this, since self reflection was clearly not a priority for him.

IDK davey, he banned half the fediverse, maybe the comments he’s reading are all supportive since he decided that he’s not going to listen to those of us that disagree.
He can’t even see this text because he put me in his fancy banlist.

Seeing how they previously said they were leaving after being unable to sway the Fediverse, probably reading it all right now.

That reminds me: PugJesus is still skulking around, too, quietly voting.

But he said he would leave! He’s never lied before.
Maybe someday he’ll go back to doom scrolling Facebook like he said he would. That certainly explains his views a lot.

also you get banned for replying with anything except boot licking to their authoritarian takes

I think everyone “wants to do the right thing”, even people committing objectively awful crimes have some rationalisation that makes it “right”, however misguided.

if i understood his long, rambly posts about it, he might have wanted to save the fediverse, but he didn’t do it for us.
he did it for the “normies” who would otherwise be filtered out by “malcontents” and toxic content; for those used to (relatively) comfier social media platforms.
i think fundamentally, though, it’s better for fewer newbies to engage with the fediverse (and for some to turn back) than to have the masses use this place the same as any other social media, with a curated feed where nothing too wrong or uncomfortable ever pops up. i don’t think we really want that audience, anyway.
i wonder if things would be different if he started with that attitude.

Anyone who appoints themselves as the sole authority of on what is moral and good is a bad person. That is straight up fascist thinking. There’s no wanting to the right thing here. This is one person’s ego driving them to think they knew better than everyone else, and that kind of thinking should not be not be given any grace.
Wren@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
I give most people grace.
Keeping myself above water, mentally, is a daily routine. I done some stupid, weird shit for the wrong reasons and have been very close to other people who’ve done the same. The worst part about mental health problems like ours is the inability to see the whole picture when you’re inside it.
Maybe he’s an asshole, maybe he’s going through shit, maybe both. I know for sure that whatever I believe has absolutely no bearing on this situation and everything to do with my own mindset, so I condemn the actions and choose grace.

They deserved to be able to explain their idea and correct the worst aspects of it. Instead they censored all criticism and resorted to ad hominem attacks.
At that point they lose all sympathy from me.
Wren@lemmy.today 3 weeks ago
I imagine your lack of sympathy will have as much to do with the situation as my views.

This is his second rage quit though

I can’t say I agree. He did think he knew what was good for everyone but I think it truly was “right” in his mind. It’s a bizarre and dishonest thing to do, but I think he thought it was justified. He probably won’t self reflect but leaving here will make it more likely.

You’re both right. He had good intentions, but good intentions implemented in bad ways can be - and often are - just as harmful as bad intentions. If you want to be beneficial for society, you can’t just hope for the best: you need to actively assess whether your actions are helping, and course correct if they aren’t. It’s a tiresome, often thankless job, but it’s required to do actual good.
