Comment on Hypothetically if I found a suitcase of money by the side of the road, is there a legal way to claim it on my taxes?

  I can’t really pay for everything in cash these days. And if it goes into a bank account the IRS is gonna start sniffing around at some point.

    The usual solution is to use the cash to pay for things that you can pay cash for - stuff you buy at a brick-and-mortar store like groceries, electronics, et cetera - while continuing to use your card to pay for the rest. It means you have the cash longer, but you’ll get through it eventually, and your regular income will stretch further in the meantime.

      And having it longer is actually a bonus because you dont want to spend it all at once.

      That’s a lot of money to spend on those two places.

      Maybe if you can pay your rent or mortgage in cash, that’ll be enough to eat through a good chunk of it.
