I’m guessing the commenter is talking about GOG and/or “legitimate” piracy on PC.
(Legitimate piracy meaning you own the game legally but you downloaded a pirated copy to avoid DRM)

Steam also does this btw

I’ve seen stuff pulled from the steam store so it’s no longer available for purchase/adding to my library, but the ones I already added, even undownloaded, have always still been available in my library, even if the game was fully defunct.

I’ve had my downloaded purchases from a humble bundle deleted from my PC after a couple days because the payment processor failed
Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
Got any sources for that? Only ever heard of them removing a game from sale, not removing it from someone who has already bought it.
Also GOG don’t do this, they are unable to uninstall a game you have downloaded already.
Arcane2077@sh.itjust.works 2 months ago
Yep, GOG doesn’t have the ability but Valve absolutely does. When my payment for a humble bundle failed (so, added to library and installed before the payment was resolved) Steam removed the games from my library AND drive

Some steam games don’t have DRM… even Steam’s. Steam just hosts the files. I think Stalker(the old games) is onesuch example. The games just launch whether steam is up or not.

Sounds like a very convincing reason to never rent a Sony product again.

please connect to the internet to play single player campaign
Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 2 months ago
Don’t have to. None of them have any DRM
Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 2 months ago
Good choice then.

Good GOG, man!

Hitman, my beloved, you’re such a good game but fuuuuuck the online connection thing.
Dojan@pawb.social 2 months ago
World of Ass? I was playing that a lot the other month, absolutely bananas that it requires an online connection.
There’s the Peacock Project though, which lets you host your own server. Ultimately that kind of thing shouldn’t be required but it’s nice that players have made their own thing. Like what do you mean I need to be online and connected to their services to progress in the campaign and unlock new things in my singleplayer game?
OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 months ago
Pro tip: pirated versions usually remove this requirement.

So, just like jailbroken playstation?

connects to the totally legit server hosted by the game company that I absolutely made an account for, the server that’s certainly not being spoofed on my local machine or hosted on my living room server
There you go, lil guy, you’re good to play this legitimate game on the server you were definitely designed for!
