I like how this implies that the person either said “pole-ish” outloud and it’s an anti-joke, or they can actually see the text when someone speaks and that’s how they communicate.

It’s the difference between [ˈpoʊlɪʃ] (Polish, nationality) and [ˈpɑlɪʃ] (eg. car polish) - both pronounced in their US variants. The former is pronounced like the /o/ in “open”

What are you talking about? Being polish is just a nationality. There is no other meaning.
